Our unit came with 225/75R15D tires does anyone have any thought on whether these are OK or should be replaced? Trailer dry 8,000 so you know what loaded will probably be. Thanks

Do a search as this has been discussed many times. The orig tires have had issues regardless of brand. I would recommend a E tire when you do replace them. I had wear issues on the original tires but don't on the Maxxis ones I have now.

How old are the tires, how many miles, how have they been maintained? ST tire manufacturers now state that ST tire useful life can be as little as 3-5 yrs. What are the axles rated for? There are 3500 lb axles and 5200 lb axles. The load range D tire has a max capacity of 2540 lbs which is insufficient for 5200 lb axles, but if you do have 5200 lb axles, then the TT should have been sold with E rated tires. On the other hand, if you have 3500 lb axles, then the D rated tires already exceed the combined axle ratings by more than 3100 lbs. and they are more than sufficient.

I finally replaced all the Load Range D's with Load Range E's. The LR D's always ran hot even with the pressures at the maximum of 55psi. After two blowouts, I replaced all the tires with LR E's. I set the pressures at 75psi and the tires are running cool. Also after about 6000 klicks on the tires, there is no indication of tire wear as well.

Don't know what brand is on the trailer as we have picked it up yet but with the D rating I am still looking at upgrading to E. What brand did you by am looking at Goodrich?

The reason your "D" tires ran hot is because the max pressure is 65psi not 55 psi. FWIW

Then it sounds like you have two 3500 lb axles that have been derated by 50 lbs each. So, if you switch to E rated tires, they will exceed the total 6900 lb axle rating by a whopping 4420 lbs and since it is unlikely you will load the TT to max axle rating, they will exceed your requirements even more. Inflate them to 80 psi and you may beat the TT and contents to death. According to the Maxxis load/inflation chart, 35 psi would be sufficient to handle the 6900 lb axle limit. But running an 80 psi tire at 35 psi doesn't sound reasonable at all. From the attached chart, 35 psi range B is good for 1760 lbs, 50 psi range C for 2150 lbs, 65 psi range D for 2540 lbs and 80 psi range E for 2830 lbs.

My humble opinion...if tires are new on trailer, monitor pressure and wear/age. If you keep them properly inflated and cared for, you should get years out of originals. Most blowouts or problems are due to incorrect pressure, which generates heat. We have Carlisle and have never had problems. I always make sure pressure is 55-65 as noted on side wall and check for heat whenever we stop. Ditto for proper bearing care.

The problem with the first set of tires on a new trailer is the person dilivering the trailer to your dealer may be running on about 40 lbs. or less. They just don't care about them and don't check them.
