Hello All . Brand new to this, I am purchasing this unit. We were wondering about any advice you campers could give. It is like new very clean and lightly used, any info good/bad or other would be a help. Things to watch out for etc.

Bill:

It would be nice to know which model you are talking about. Click on the CrossRoads logo at the top of this page and see if you can nail down which model you are talking about. You can probably tell by looking at the floor plans.

Basiocally, everything should be working and the person should be able to turn everything on for you. 2008 is not that old so it should still be looking newish and clean.

At that age, there really shouldn't be anything burnt out or worn out yet.

My bigwarning signsI looked for on used trailers (mine were quite a bit older):

1.any obvious physical damage, seperated or "repaired" exterior seams

2. large calk spots on the roof, warping or staining of the ceiling and walls - indicates past leaks.

3. Soft spots on the floor

4. tire tread and sidewalls

5. Age/condition of the LP tanks and connections.check for leaks with soapy water. Completely empty tanks raises a red flag for me.

6. Check the undercarriage. If it is supposed to be sealed/enclosed then it should be. look for potential rodent holes

7. Look closely for any signs of damage to the hitch coupler

Best thing to watch out for is - if it seems too good of a price to be true - there is probably a problem in there somewhere. If something doesn't look quite right - it probably isn't. If it looks too clean you need to closely check the spots that are harder to clean. Trust your gut and if you can have someone who can go with you to check it out with experience and/or an independant perspective, bring them along and then take them to dinner to discuss.

When I bought my 2006 RK last year... I took a ton of pictures with a good camera.. The guy I bought it from answered all questions and demostrated how to use all the equipment... both slides were moved in and out several times, the stove, overn were turned on and left on for several minutes.... all lights.... found one running light not working... he imediately got his ladder and replaced the bulbs... worked the awning several times.... checked the propane tank and checked the dump valves... he lived in the country.. so I was able to flush the toilet and run water in the shower, sinks and then open the valves and dump.

When I got home I reviewed all the pictures to make sure I did not miss anything..

Good Luck

Get on the roof and crawl around. Make sure all is well up top. When I bought my used cruiser it had brand new tires. It didn't take long to see uneven tire ware and I had to replace a bent axle.

Lots of good advice....take plenty of pictures and open EVERYTHING up and take a peek. Is this unit from a dealer or private individual? Where in Illinois are you located??
