I have to replace some of the seam tape on my slideouts. The only way I see this being done right will be to get on the top of the slide out. Has anyone actually climbed on top of there slideouts? Are they designed to support someone walking on them?

First, I would say that you shouldn't walk on the slide-out roof. Second, why do you think this is the only way? Seems like a tall ladder should work for the side and outer edges and the main roof should work for the inner edge. That's my thought, but I've never done what you need to do.

Other thoughts, can you work with the SO partially retracted, or work from the inside with the SO fully retracted?

Sorry to say it depends on weight. Think about it, I'd let my wife up on the roof all day at 5'6" but at 6'4" (with a husky build) would it be wise for me to do the same?

I would suggest prudence and the use of a step ladder with someone holding the base for proper support and saftey.

The reason i thought it would be better to walk on the slides is because2 of my slidesare big slides and to get to the middle sections I would have to move the ladder around. From what I read this tape has a quick setup time and I will need to move fast. Plus I don't have a tall enough ladder to get the top of the bedroom slide. I like the idea of opening the slide just enough to reveal the sections that need to be taped. I can get to the middle sections from the roof. Good idea, Thanks!!!

Never walk on the slide roof. It is not decked to withstand the weight of a man.

I have walked on my slide to clean the top.I see little differenct from walking on top or standing inside the slide.I think it must be fully extended to do this, but I never had any problems from it.As said, I don't dance on it ,just walk while cleaning, I wouldn't put several people on it.If it won't holdup,I don't want it anyway. It is a full alum cage and suspose to be on 16 in center as everything else.

However the SO floor and roof are not built the same. Floor is a single piece of 3/4 inch decking, no studs. The SO roof may be 16 inch on center aluminum studs, but I don't think it is a truss like the main roof, not sure if the plywood thickness is the same.

CR advertises all plywood construction. I think the floor of the so is osb. Not sure about the roof, but if they put it in the floor, you can bet your bottom dollar it's in the roof also.

I also have walked on mine to clean them. I weigh 175 lbs. and the slide roofs seemed very solid to me. I walked carefully and didn't jump around.

Thanks all for the input. Since I am able to clean my slides from the roof and I believe I can fix the slide tape from the roof and aladder I will stay off of them. The roof is advertised as "walkable" but I have never read anything about the slides so I'm not taking any chances. The last thing I want is my 5'10"210lbs of solid (blubber)mass falling thru to the couch.

The SO floor is a single piece of deck board (not the same thing as OSB sheathing) because plywood is not available in lengths greater than 8 ft. To my knowledge, all brands in this price and weight range do the exact same thing for slideouts wider than 8 ft. CR probably needs an * that the SO floor is an exception to their plywood construction.
