I guess I missed the part where he said he "walked off" and left it and the tank ruptured. And even if he did walk off and leave it if the vent was connected to the tank correctly it should have pushed the excess water out the vent on the roof. If the vent was not correctly installed then the pressure has no where to escape. I know this fromexperience.

Well Hunter 11 if he did not walk off how do you explain that much pressure being applied. Why was so much pressure applied in the first place to push the pipe out even if it wasnot installed right as you say. That little 1 1/2" pipe was never intended to relieve pressure it is a air vent only. Is camper 13 ft tall, rule of thumb 1/2 lb per ft so it has to over come at least 6 to 7 psi head pressureto vent. In the 30 some years I've camped I have witness 3 blown tanks, all ways the same, walked off with hose running.

I use a water timer on my hose when flushing to help prevent overfilling. It is not accurate as far as how many gallons as it only is a timer, but once you kno your water pressure you can come pretty close. I usually flush about 10 - 12 minutes. It is only a $10 investment! One can get a control for gallons but they are more money.

All units I've seen with the built in flush system have a sticker that says to never utilize the flush system with the sewer outlet valve closed. I do close the black valve on mine when I flush, but we watch the tank level closely and when it starts to "bump" the FULL indicator I open the black valve and dump again. I've never had any problems doing this.

I did have to have the black tank replaced on my previous fiver. The factory cut the hose that runs from the valve box to the black tank too short. When the unit flexed during travel, the hose pulled tight and broke the molded fitting off the black tank. When I went to flush, water poured out from under the insulation. There was no fix other than replacing the tank. Thankfully, it was still under warranty at the time.

Tank, regardless should not have ruptured. Worst thing that should have happened is his rig getting a "blackwater bath". Was just at the factory for service. Shop rate has gone from a reasonable $85 per hour to a whopping $140. Fortunately we were taken care of but will think twice before returning. Its obvious Crossroads is trying to get out of the Service business other than Warranty and INSURANCE CLAIMS
