Hey folks, quick question - we have used the water heater on our new Z-1 only a few times, but I noticed a problem this weekend.
When using gas to heat the water, the burner apparently gave off too much smoke. When packing up to leave, I noticed a good bit of soot on the water heater door and even a light film up the side of the camper. Any clues as to why and how to change things?
I have had numerous RV's over the years and have never dealt with this issue. Any advise would be welcome!
Thanks.

I have seen a few rigs over the years with black doors but have not heard of any issues on this forum. It sounds like the gas/air mixture is off a bit. You might do a quick visual inspection to see if something is blocking the burner area (dirt, critters, etc). If not, take it back for the dealer to repair.

I have seen this on other rigs also. If it was mine, I would have it checked out by someone qualified in LP. In my opinion, it's burning to rich and there is the possibility of a fire.

Where the propane goes into the burner there is an orfice to control the flow of gas. Just outside of that is the burner with an air volume control.
You have a flame without enough air to maximize the burn. Adjust the air volume control until you get that typical blue flame.

Bob, you are totally correct. The reason I didn't instruct him to do that was it was apparent he was unfamiliar with the LP operation of the heater. Which could lead to a worse situation.

Thanks for your opinions guys, just wanted to hear what other folks have experienced. I am familiar with the oxygen adjustments with propane, but wanted other thoughts before changing anything. Rv is in storage until next weekend. Will investigate further then. Thanks again.
