Water Heater question

Our 5th wheel is set up "at the beach" in Long Beach, WA.
Water, Power and Sewer are hooked to shore power.

The Hot Water heater switch is in the "Wall Panel" (Either elec. or propane).
It is on Electric now and the RED light is on and NO hot water.
I switched it to off and turned on the Propane switch.
The RED light is still on.

Anyone know what I need to do to get hot water, besides call the repair man?>

Do you have the water heater set for bypass?? That is the winter position. Check out the valves by the water heater to be sure.

I have not touched anything. I came back down to the RV after being home for 2 weeks and found the red light on??

What do you mean by setting the water heater to bypass?? Could I have do that by mistake??

No, not by mistake. You have to physically turn the valves near the hot water heater, like when you winterize. Is there any water coming out of the hot water faucet??

Yes, water comes out of faucet, (but it's cold).

Hey Mark;
I just re-read by book and it says that if you don't use the Water Heater for 2 weeks or more, you need to turn the water heater OFF, run the water in the sink for at least 10 minutes and then turn the water heater back on.

We did this and it works just fine, we have hot water, yeah

Do you leave your water heater on when you leave?? It's a good idea to turn it off if you are going to be away from the trailer esp if away for more than a day.

Hi Everyone, don't want to beat this water heater thing to death, but, just need re-assurance. I have a 2015, 27RL. It comes with a "convenience center" which is mounted in the kitchen area by the LR door. It has three options: 1) water pump, 2)water heater gas and 3)water heater electric. I am using total electric. I have the toggle on water heater electric and it stays red constantly. I am getting very hot water. I am concerned because with other trailers, once the water heated to a certain temp., the lite went out. This one does not; on all the time. Seem OK?

My red light only goes on when there's a fault, either gas or electric. I take it you are shore power attached? If not, that heater can drain batteries in a hurry and throw a fault.
If your light is staying on and wired as mine, I'd Expect only cold water.
You might shut it off, flush and inspect, and restart to see if that helps.
Otherwise, sounds like more technical help needed.

We've only had opportunity to use our Z-1 two times between delivery and onset of winter, but the red light on our control panel stays lit in whichever water heater mode we're using.

Same with our Z-1. The red light on the switch (water pump, water htr elec, or water heater gas) just mean the switch is on. It is not a reflection of any demand.

Our red light is on whenever the water heater is turned on, no matter if it's on electric or gas. Same with the pump.
I usually turn the water heater off when not in use, after everyone is done taking showers or when the dishes are done. Then in the morning, I'll turn It back on when I wake up since I'm usually the first to crawl out of bed and off after breakfast.

I also always turn it and the water source off if hooked up to city water, don't care to return to a flooded trailer because a line burst. Before you ask, yes, I use a pressure regulator. Only takes a few seconds to turn it back on when I return. Peace of mind I guess.

Just to clarify, the older rigs (like mine) the red light comes on when there is a fault. Not sure when they changed but the newer units the red light stays on all the time.

Just like the older units had a max temp of 140 dgs (no thermostat). I understand from other posts, the newer rigs have a temp thermostat.

Hi Stan, good advise. Should there be a concern though to continue switching your HW heater on and off multiple times during a single camping trip?

It turns itself on and off all the time as I see it. I turn mine off at night as I don't like the red light on while sleeping plus no reason for it to start up at night. Same as Stan when I leave for the day. Also turn city water and pump off while gone. Only takes a second and gives me piece of mind.
