What is this thing?

Can someone tell me what this picture thing is that's in our trailer? Whats it do, etc. When I push the test, nothing happens, does it need batteries, or run off the DC power, Thank You to whom answers.

Looks like a carbon dioxide detector. What year is the trailer.

That's the LP/CO (propane & carbon monoxide) monitor, its wired (or should be) directly to the coach battery. If it's working it should have a small blue light (mines blue, yours may be different) on & when tested should emit a very loud alarm. It will also alarm if the coach battery is low. I don't know what rv (please post year & model in your signature) you have or how old, but those monitors are only good for about 5 years.

Its a 2011 Sunset Trail ST25RB. Sorry I should have posted that with my post. I added it to my signature just now but I don't believe it edited itself to my previous post. But I Thank you for the info, Will go look for a light and again check for some noise when pressing the button again.

LOL, ok went and pulled it off the wall and wollaa, no 1amp fuse in the fuse holder stuck in the wall. That explains why its not responding.

Someone probably pulled the fuse because they got tired of it going off or didn't understand it.

When they do not reset ,some times you have to disconnect the trailer battery momentarily. Mine would not stop beeping after a power failure. 2012 Sunset Trail 250RB.

Hey Papa, your probably right why they yanked the fuse, but if its going off all the time is it faulty, super sensitive, or old age as the Texan replied above, ruling out LP/CO. I don't have the proper 1amp fuse but did pop in a 5amp and it works. Just thought if by chance it's going off all the time if old age might be the culprit, it is 6-7 years old, less depending how long it's had no fuse.

I would try it and see how it does. Could be they pulled the fuse so it wouldn't drain the battery if they didn't unhook the battery when storing. Who knows.

Ace , I had to order my 1 amp fuse from Orielys, actually it came in a 5pack, so I guess extras wont hurt. My original detector went south, and replaced it about a month ago. Works great. Travelin is correct, we have a 2012 Slingshot, and here it is 5 years later and the original went bad.

Be sure to check the date on the back of the monitor, it may be older than the rv depending how long it was on the shelf before they installed it.
Also some aerosol sprays can/will set it off (Lysol air freshener will immediately), low coach battery, & someone on this forum or a different one suggested their dog laying in front of it & farting set it off.

Thanks Travelin Tex, good tip. Went and checked mine and its June/2010. Still will stick a fuse in it and see if it still works like its suppose to, or if its a pretty light filling a hole in the wall.

Don't replace them simply because they happen to be 5 years old. There is many out there still working fine that are a lot older then 5 years.
It's like a lot of the other stuff in an RV, you have to be vigilant and keep track of it. Add it to your list of things to do/keep track of----like caulking. Which is a big one.

I agree Lloyd, but if your roof leaks it won't kill you , if your rv is full of propane or exhaust fumes without any warning, YOUR DEAD. Be sure to test the monitor at 2-3 times a year just to be on the safe side.

Well today I went to town, got fuses, and after a minute it blasts steady, so took out the fuse like it was before. I suspect that is what a shot alarm acts like? Will have to check out if I can find a replacement somewhere in Canada for the Protechtor GS961LP-RV
