Would just like to know what y'all use for WiFi on the road. Am seriously considering a new Rushmore and will be fulltiming within the year, if not sooner. Would like to know from others, fulltime or part, what is used for WiFi. Thanks

In area's that don't have free WiFi the new IPhone 3GS or 4 has "personal hotspot". If you have a data plan with your carrier you can link your computer via bluetooth or USB to your IPhone and you have high speed internet! It works great.

What we use is a laptop with a built in wireless card. If you have an older computer you can purchase a wireless adapter that will plug into the USB port on your computer. Then you have to be near an "open" wifi network such as ones advertised in a lot of campgrounds. Hope this helps.

we have verizon wireless. Untill recently we used a MIFI 2200 with our laptop and had good luck in most places we went. We have now gone to a Motorla Xoom with Verizon wireless. The Xoom has a built in MIFI much like the MIFI 2200 and we are still able to use the laptop. I avoid the WIFI hotspots as I am concerned how secure they may be.

I have found most campgrounds have free wifi as well as many tourist info stations, motels, truck stops, etc. I have computer with wireless built in and have traveled most of Canada & US including Alaska. Very seldom were we without access for long.

I use the Verizon Wireless USB Modem UMV 190. Have yet to be without a signal from Washington to Texas. We use the same modem for our home connection since we are in the sticks and can't get cable.

First option for us is always WiFi for use of laptop and/or tablet, but an option we often use is our Sprint cell phone as tether modem to our laptop using a little program loaded called PDA Net. It's under $20 for lifetime of phone and it turns your phone into amodem. It may not be available for all carriers, however if you go online to "JuneFabrics" or search for "PDANet, it will give you all the necessary info. Keep in mind that you MUST have an unlimited data plan!!!!!

We can't live without it anymore. We are on-line while camping wherever we go......good luck.

We have iPhones and a iPad 2, both of them share a 3G wireless account with WiFi ability. The iPad 2 functions quite nicely as a laptop replacement and the 3G is pretty darn good in most states now.

Virgin Wireless Broadband. $50 a month unlimited, no contract. Presently at Ray Roberts Lake State Park in far northern Denton County with very good reception.

I've been using a Verizon USB760, picked up a re-furb on ebay for around $30, purchased 1Gig/30 days no contract pre-paid via the activation software that starts on first install. I only used a little more than a tenth before my my first 30 days, just purchased my second $50 block of time a week ago. I've gone from Texas to Washington in the last couple of weeks, only one time did I have a little trouble getting a signal, but then I put on a USB extension cable and hung the modem in a window and it worked fine.
I usually use the park wireless with my laptops built in modem if there is a good signal and reasonable speed, but the USB modem offers more security if one is going to do banking or personal business. The real test is coming up - I'll be going north through Canada sometime next week.

Another option is a WIFI booster antenna. You still have to be fairly close to a free WIFI hotspot, but the booster can turn an unusable signal into a very acceptable signal. There is a restaurant near our marina which is about 300 yards from our boat. I can point my booster antenna at the restaurant and use their signal. Also, virtually every public library has free WIFI and often some desktop computers you can use if you don't have your laptop for some reason. Almost all McDonalds restaurants also have free WIFI. I've never had much trouble finding free WIFI however, as pointed out earlier, I'd be careful about doing things like online banking and such sites.

We use Time Warner Mobil Hotspot. it's $50 a month for unlimited and DW and I can stay connnected as long as we like with no worry about getting slammed with a huge overage bill. TW uses Sprints network, so everywhere there is Sprint, we have wifi.

We use Motorola Droid X with Verizon Wireless Service. The cost is $20 per month to tether and it can be removed when you are not using it. Very good reception.

We use a T-Mobile USB modem on the road and at home. (also in the sticks)

They want us to upgrade to the new 4G system at $10.00 less per month than the current 3G. ($39.99 vs the current $49.99)Given the proposed "merger", I'm not sure if it's a good idea. Works fairly well most of the time. We don't do online banking so we use Wi-Fi hotspots whenever they are available. Of course it always pays to keep security up to date.
