Whats going on here?

Happy New Year everyone!



I am back in my park and after hooking up, I kept hearing water running somewhere. The city water connection has no leaks or problems. After a while, I went outside to check again and water was coming out of the fresh water intake overflow orifice! I turned off the city water connection, and went back to drain the fresh water holding tank a bit,just enough to stop the overflow. So, I am sitting here with a full water tank, but I am keeping the city water connection closed till I hear back from someone as to what is going on.

Any ideas?? I did partially drain the holding tank before hitting the road before the holidays, but I have not hooked up to it to refill it. Now it looks like I dont have to.



Anyone have a clue as to why the water tank is filling through the city water connection??

Sounds like a bad check valve allowing the city water to enter the fresh water tank.

Thanks for the reply. IDK, you could be right, but here's what I did. I turned the water pump on and charged all the lines from the tank, then turned the city water back on. So far, it is not backfilling. Is it possible that there was a presuure void on the tank side allowing the city wter to back flow in ? I don't know what else to think a this point, but I no longer here the water going through the lines, and so far it is not coming out the overfill.



Is the check valve accessible? Sounds like a dealer issue.

I would guess the check valve in the pump was stuck open and when you ran the pump it freed up.

sounds like a check valve. your pump might be doubling as a check valve when turned on, but it shouldn't have to be on. I'm not sure if the check valve is integrated in the pump or in-line. I would think the logical spot for it would be between the pump and the winterization valve and I don't remember seeing one there on mine so I would guess its integrated.
But then again, being in texas you might say: "whats a winterization valve?" someone else on here should know. But its covered under your warranty.
On our last unit I had the opposite problem: when the pump turned on I had water coming out my city water connection. It was the check valve in the city water connector.

Matt, our Texas winter was on a Thurs last year, that's when Keith's water pipe froze. Ooooops did I say that?

one year we were camping in october (canadian thanks giving) and I was out side with a kettle of boiling water thawing out my hose so dw could have a shower because she didn't want to use the public showers. We winterized after that trip.

On mine the check valve is in the pump itself. Probably stuck open and running the pump freed it up.

City water is introduced on the pressurized side of the pump and will naturally flow backwards to the output of the pump. At that point the pump acts as it's own check valve and prevents the pressurized water from getting to the unpressurized side of the system. I notice that you have a very new unit. My guess would be that a small bit of plastic etc. got stuck in the pump and allowed the water to back-flow. When you ran the pump the next time it cleared the problem. Most new systems will have debris left over from manufacturing, such as small bits of plastic in the tanks from drilling holes. I'm not sure if RV pumps have strainers on the input side, but on my boat I checked the strainer after the first season and it was almost completely clogged.

OK after a couple of months with no problem, I moved my rig to a new (more level) spot in the park. I hooked up the water and voila', the backfill problem started all over again. This time I called a local service guy (and BTW, Crossroads was GREAT to work with doing a Pre-Auth for warranty repair!). We replaced the pump this time, and I kept the old one for an inspection. When I tore into it to see if there was indeed a piece of plastic or something in the pump, I found this small piece of "pvc chip" (?) walking around in the pump. I am guessing that this chip was preventing the pump valve interfaces to close properly on themselves and allowed for the backfilling problem. I just thought you might like to know, and it makes sense to me that this could have been the problem.
