Cold Weather Camping:
We have a Cruiser with the Upgraded Insulation Package
and have not frozen up yet. We are camped in below freezing temperatures for a
month each spring and again each fall; night time temperatures often fall to 10º
F. We employ an 800 watt Lasko Space Heater that cannot keep up so the propane
furnace has to cycle and that does keep the tanks and under belly gate valves
from freezing. The Campground demands that the water supply be kept at a small
trickle to keep their entire system from freezing. So, we open the gray tank
gate valve and turn the kitchen faucet on to a small trickle. Our system has
worked great for the last 3 years. I did place a temperature controller heater
in the 5th wheel’s basement along with an indoor outdoor
thermometer. The I/O thermometer always reads 40-45º and that is what it is set
for.
By the way that little Lasko heater can be kicked up to
1500 watts and we have another electric heater just in case the furnace fails;
and it HAS.
