2010 32QB

Looking forward to lots of trips to college football games in the fall and some lake trips in the spring and summer. I appreciate any hints or tips along the way!

Welcome and congrats on your new Zinger. May it bring you many happy camping trips. What college? If you will be doing a lot of dry camping for the games, you may want to look into a generator or a solar battery recharger. Those that dry camp can give you better advice on this. One thing you will learn if dry camping is how to conserve water... this was a challenge for us just in a partial hook up as our family tended to fill our grey tank really quickly. With some adjustments we have gotten a lot better.

Casey -- Welcome to the forum, you will find it very helpful with issues that you might have, or things you might want to do on your camper. Also congradulations on the Zinger.

Texas A&M. Wife and I met while in school in the mid-90s and have been making the trip back for football games since 2001. With all of the growing families from our college friends, it's become more of a family event than anything else. Our two little boys will love it!

That said - hmm, conserving water. I can see that being a challenge. Porta-potties are provided and I'll surely encourage everyone to use them as much as possible. There might be some short baths or showers at night. Other than that, I hope to keep the water use to a minimum. Thank you for the suggestion!

Welcome to the forum. I installed an Aerobic shower head, you will learn to wet down, turn the water off, lather up, then rinse off rather quickly. It will conserve lots of water. The DW and I have boondocked for 5 days and not filled the grey tank. It can be done, as Anaro said, it just takes practice. Use the Geo method also, you want to make sure your tank reading lights are working properly, or it will do you no good. So far the Geo has worked well for us.

Best of luck with your new unit.

Jim

Please elaborate on this "geo method".

I should mention this is our first travel trailer.

X2 on the geo method. I tried the drop in stuff. Geo method works better. Make sure you always keep couple of gallons of water in the black tank to avoid the dreaded stone mountain buildup. Teach the kids early to use a lot less tp and to add extra water in the bowl for a bowel movement.

To conserve water use paper products where possible. You can rinse dishes in a pan and dump that into the black tank instead of grey. Everyone is not gonna get a shower everyday when dry camping. Learn to love baby wipes.

Remember your battery is not enough to run your ac and tv. You are probably gonna want a generator. Get the quietest one you can, Honda's are good for that.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We're already planning to use paper products where possible. Also, with a 3-yr old and 5-month old in the house, we're very used to baby wipes!

On the generator - that's a great topic for discussion since I haven't purchased the generator yet. The 32 QB is a 30-amp setup with 15,000 BTU A/C. From the math I've done so far, the best setup I see is the Honda EU2000 companion setup. This is two Honda EU2000s patched together to give 4000 watts and 30 amp service. Here's the link.

I'm interested in any feedback on the set with our units.

Can't help much with the generators since I've never had one.A suggestion for the 5month old is to fold down your dinette and use that space for a pack and play. Also we had issues with our dd rolling out of the bunk when we first started. She was 3 back then. You might want to think about side rail options. Our bunk has a wall covering most of the bunk with the exception of a couple feet of entrance. We ended up padding the floor with the dinette cushions so she wouldn't hurt herself if she fell out of the bottom bunk. She does fine now that she is 5.

Congrats. A thought on the black water chat - we have our kids use wipes instead of TP. They never seem to know how to use minimally, so this as worked for us (yes...they put them in the trash...not as bad as you may think...)
