2014 Planning Session

We are excited - our camping group meets tonight to start planning the 2014 trip schedule. We will be discussing the Crossroads Rally for 2014 as well a several other trips. While 2013 was a good year...we are expanding our plans for 2014 - gotten good ideas from this forum. Thanks to all for a great year of support.

I know how your feeling, we go camping with our neighbors a lot and we were over there for dinner the other night and we got talking about camping. Our first trip is planned for the last week in March we are going to Gulf Shores. Hopefully we will get out locally before then though.

Moving to Dothan, AL

Hi Everyone,
My family and I are moving to Dothan, AL later this month and are looking for good campgrounds that are relatively close to that area for good weekend/long weekend get-a-ways. We have a 2013 SF32RL and like to have full hook ups. Any places with shade? How is the Panama City, FL area for camping? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

We have camped in Seminole State Park (east of you, in Georgia) and enjoyed it. Don't remember is there were full hook up sites or not, as we usually only get elec/water. The web site for the state parks should tell you though Years ago we camped in a state park in P.C. but I don't recall too much about it. State Parks are usually pretty good though, in my experience. I also recommend Ochlockonee State Park just south of Tallahassee. A nice, small little park, only has electricity and water though. We go there every year in January for several days. Plus you can reserve a site on line at reserveamerica.com.

YEARS ago when I first started rv'ing,
we went thru Alabama and found some of the nicest state parks there !

You will have a lot to pick from - heck half the fun of rv'ing is trying out new places ! after all, the house has wheels and can move if not to your taste

Gcross,
I don't know if you can get on base, but FT.Rucker is just down the road, and they have nice campsites with hook-ups and a lake near by

I'm not sure about getting on base. I am a veteran but I'm not sure if they would just let a civilian camp on base. Good thought and worth checking though!! I appreciate the response.

I might be talking out of turn here, but from what I have seen and heard that is what they are for--vets.

A "card carrying" retired veteran or eligible person must make the reservation. From what I have been told, that is the basic requirement. I would suggest you ask your vet friend/family member for a copy of their retiree ID just for this purpose.

Thanks! I've never done anything like this before so I didn't know. Good information.

There is a base out on the WA. coast that is military. My son is X Navy. He set it up and when we were out there, his camper and ours spent the weekend there.

As a "card carrying" retired veteran, my understanding is that I must accompany my "guest" to and in the military campgrounds.....being responsible for their actions, etc. However, it seems that each campground manager is making their "rules", so check out the local base....also each branch seems to have their own reservation regulations.
