I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good campground close to Asheville. We will be there in Oct. and would like somewhere that is easy to get in and out of. This will not be a stay to find great camping but a trip to explore so great scenery and lovely sunsets at the campground are not the prime objective. Do not want to stay packed in like a parking lot but you get the idea. It is the countryside we have come to explore.

Thank you

Check into Pride Resort, Waynesville, NC. It is just off I40 along Jonathan Creek (I believe it is exit 20). Nice resort, just a few miles from Smoky Mountain National Park, Maggie Valley, Cherokee, Blue Ridge Parkway on ramp. We really like this resort and go twice a year at the minimum. 20 minutes to Biltmore in Asheville, Smoky Mountain railroad which has some really nice scenic rides, high mountain areas such as Cashiers, Highlands and Hendersonville. They are part of coast to coast and AOR.

check out Lakewood RV resort, Hendersonville NC, about 20 miles from Asheville.

they have long pull-thru sites and are located about 1 mile from exit 53 off route I26.

www.lakewoodrvresort.com

We stayed there and found it and the personnel very good.

you can get local maps for Asheville and Hendersonville at the office.

Second the recommendation for Pride Resort. Easy in and out andlots of other things to do and see in the area. Cattaloochee, where they reintroduced elk into the Smokies,is very close to Pride Resort. If you are an AOR member it is an exceptional value!

We stayed here http://www.campfirelodgings.com/. It has a great view and nice sites. It is on top of the mountain and the drive up is steep but not long.

This looks like somewhere that we would enjoy, but looking at one of the pictures, I would be concerned about taking little kids, my youngest is 3. The picture I am referring to is this one - http://www.campfirelodgings.com/images/newland.JPG

Is it really as close to the edge as it looks or would you consider it "safe" for little kids that like to run around? Or to ask the same question in a different way, how many balls are my kids going to lose as they roll off the mountain?
