We are brand new to RVing and won't actually pick up our Cruiser until May 2nd. We are wondering if anyone has some favorite campgrounds within 100 miles of the Twin Cities? We won't be going on a long distance trip this year and would like to get used to this whole new venture by staying close to home.

Thanks,

Greg

We will be vacationing at Sandy Pines which is north of Brainerd first part of July and I can report back then. We did stay at a place close to Park Rapids during the summer for a few years, but that is a bit out of your mileage range. Check out IRV2 forums as well, lots of good camping reviews over there as well. Good luck and congrats on the new rig...

Hi we go to the State Parks most of the time. Sibley is our favorite over by New London/Spicer also Myre/Big Island near Owatona is nice. Also ForrestvilleMystrey Cave is realy nice. The KOA in Joran (right on 169) works fine for us when we do Valley Fair.

Hi Greg,

We also just picked up our first RV (actually a Zinger travel trailer) and really enjoy it! For our maiden voyage just to get used to all the systems we "camped" at Dakotah Meadows next to Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake. They have full hook ups and even an RV wash facility. Also E85 fuel if needed.

We live in Minneapolis and store our RV at Hilltop Trailer in Fridley which has very reasonable rates.

We ride Gold Wing also! A 2006 "gold" wing with Bushtec trailer. Hope to see you on the road!

Since posting our reply to this query last April, we discovered a really neat county campground near the Twin Cities. It's Bunker Hills County Park in Coon Rapids, an Anoka County Park. For being close to the cities, it has a lot going for it -- extensive paved bike trails (one that goes across a lake on a pontoon bridge!), really nice bathrooms, level sites andmany arefairly private with some shady spots. All sites have water & electricity (all have 30 amp and some have 50 amp). An annual Anoka Countysticker is required, but it is also valid in Washington and Carver Counties (and vice versa).
For indoorwinter storage in the Twin Cities, the Minn. State Fair allows parking in the exhibit buildings from Oct. through March.

Marty,

Your email is very timely; just last Friday I was looking back through old posts and saw yours and thought: a retired goldwing rider, new to RVing; we have a lot in common. That evening I talked with my wife, Deb, about you two and she thinks we ought to get together sometime. I think so too.

Are you interested? We live in Eagan. Maybe an evening meal someplace? What do you think?

Take care,

Greg
