Wondering if anyone has RV'd this route, and could recommend any decent campgrounds.

We would be going through the Wind River area, onto Casper and up to Mt Rushmore.

Thanks,

Sure can -- we love central WY and go as often as possible. In the Wind River Range there are several campgrounds, including Ray Lake just north of Lander -- 10 sites and a small cafe. But call ahead to make sure they have room. North of Lander, don't miss Dubois, a KOA and at least one other. And when you head east, stop in Buffalo in the Big Horn mountains and Powder River country. Deer Park is the must-visit RV park in Buffalo. Then head east on I-90 to the Black Hills.

Happy traveling.

We fell in love with Wyoming on our first trip to the Tetons and have since become even more fond of the Powder River and Wind River areas. Thermopolis is worth a stop, too. If you stop in Buffalo, take a day trip north toward Sheridan and find the small town of Story. A must for lunch there is the general store called the "Waldorf-A-Storya" We'll be there in mid-May.

Yes definitely, we are abit famililar with Northern Wyoming, spent many Summers in Sheridan myself as a kid, a person dear to me is actually from Story. We were trying to see a different part of Wyoming, such as Central and Southern. Thinking we will try to get to the Wind and Powder River area, never been there yet. Thanks again for the recommendations.

Great -- don't miss Dubois, north of Lander. Great small time, like Jackson without the millionaires. If you stay at the KOA, take in a show by The Prickly Pair. Tell Les & Locke that Bill from Cochise County said Hi!

In Eastern Wy just off I 90 (I Think) is Devils Tower. It's about 125 miles from Mr. Rushmore and the tower is something to see. May want to check out a map for more info.
