Our first weekend camping.

I'm weeks late writing this but life has been unbelievably busy in the past 3 weeks.

Our first weekend was a quick drive to Jellystone in North Java, NY about 90 minutes away from home. We had the day off while the kids went to school and daycare I brought the trailer home in the morning and we went to work packing. The time flew past and before we knew it, the time was gone and we were off to get the kids.

We made it across the boarder without any trouble and stopped for some grocery shopping before continuing to the park. The drive was great even with a crosswind by the lake it was an easy pull. ( Rewind 10 days. I brought the trailer home to do a bit of work and ran into a big issue. The autoride airbag system in my avalanche failed to pump the shocks up and truck was sitting on the bump stops. I crawled under as my wife reset the system and and sprayed the shock bag with soapy water. Sure enough it was leaking badly.

A call to the dealer and they told me it would be $1400+ for the two rear shocks. Gutted I searched around the internet and ended up finding them on Amazon for less than $200 a piece. The swap was easy 20 minutes a side and all I had to do was set the parking break on the truck. I piled nearly all the junk I had in my garage into the bed and it pumped right up and help pressure until the weight was removed. )

Yogi greeted us and the extreamly friendly staff got us sorted out. They directions to the site were perfect and after dropping the kids off at the park it was time to setup for the first time.

Setup went smoothly and before I knew it we were level, connected and ready for some fun. We were camping that weekend with two other family's one with a trailer the other renting a cabin. During my setup I noticed a familiar face and one of my wife's friends who was there with five other family's all with trailers. Despite the cool temperatures it looked like it would be a great weekend.

Leah and Gavin enjoying a snack.

Jellystone filled our day with hourly activities, the morning hay ride was epic, we sang and joked as we bumped our way around the park. The staff really went out of their way to make sure we had a great weekend.

Rain and 40' temps put a early end to Saturday nights fun, thats ok though we were all exhausted from a busy day.

The only issue we found with the trailer was that 3 LED's on the front had stopped working. A quick email to our dealer and they have already confirmed the repair added to our next visit. Not bad considering.

Before we knew it the three days were over and it was time to head home. Not before booking the same site for later in October and again for the same weekend next year.

We made it home in just over 90 minutes had the trailer cleaned and put away in it's secure storage location 2 hours later. We are now counting down the days until we depart for our next trip to Watkins Glenn at the end of the month. The weekend couldn't have gone any better, even with the cool temps we had a great time. I returned home relaxed a bit rested but filled with great memories and anticipation of our next adventure.

Side note: I mentioned our other friends who camped with us in their trailer, well they took a big liking to our Sunset Trail and 10 days later had traded thiers in for the exact same model. As I said to the salesman, nothing works better than positive word of mouth.

Really great to hear your first time out was great. We want to work in Yogi Bears on one of our trips. It's just a little bit of a drive from Fl. We have yet to camp somewhere that we don't get tons of compliments on our TT. Enjoy and God Bless!

Great write up

Good to hear positive stories of trips! We had a great stay at a Jellystone in Colorado last summer.
Matter of fact, the photo below was our site. Best site we have ever had at any campgrounds.

Coopers dad, I also enjoyed reading your story. Nice looking set up. Wish my unit had the blue led light strip.

It's a strange addition really. It's neon blue compared to the soft white from the awning. We are going to have ours replaced with a matching soft white when it goes in for repair.
