We are looking at going south in April 2013, I would like recommendations

on campgrounds in the Savannah GA area, close to the ocean preferred.

I would like opinions on both places to stay as well as to avoid. We are

looking at River's End Campground on Tybee Island. Has anyone stayed

there or know anything about it? Thanks.

We stayed at Skidaway island campground a couple of years back. It is run by the state and very nice with lots of room for the trailer and slides. Not a far drive in to Savannah and out to tybee island. I was impressed with the state parks in GA.

Tybee Island - Rivers End is a great place to go...
You can walk to the beach and lighthouse. Great places to eat nearby as well. Try Sundae Cafe, the scallops were amazing.

if bucks are not a problem , then Tybee is the plac e for you . however , i agree with the previous post about Skidaway Island . we stayed there and used it as our home base during a visit to Savannah . full hookups plus cable TV . i wish some our state parks were like this . like previous post , we were very impressed with the Ga. State Parks

Another GA state park to consider in that area is Fort McCallister (probably spelled that wrong) just south of Savanna in Richmond Hill. Not to far away to drive to tybee island, or River Street, and easier to get to than skidaway. Don't have to pull through Savanna traffic.

if you have time try jekyll island state park in ga,the whole island is part of the state park, campground(fhu),fishing pier, resturants, bike paths and beaches, campground not on beach, but fishing pier (road to) almst directly in front of campground
also if you have time try fort clinch state park at amelia island fl,(w&e),one section is just across some sand dunes to the beach
