My husband is nervous about pulling our trailer across the chesepeake bay bridge tunnel on our way home from Virginia Beach ( we are starting in williamsburg therefore coming by way of washington DC). Any experience from those who have done this is greatly appreciated.

NO PROBLEM! They will shut the bridge downin high winds.

We have been using this route, both ways, for the last 6 years, rather than the aggravation of Rte 95 thru Washington.

It is a more relaxing drive...speed limit 55MPH and traffic lights, but worth the drive.

Just watch the traffic signs in the Norfolk area and you should be ok.

If you need further information, email me.

regards,

I think that they ask you to turn your propane off going thru the tunnels do they not ?? We didn't when we went thru but now I know.

OOPS! YES...turn off the propane tank before entering....they asked me about it every time I paid the toll.

Looks like the toll is $20.00

By the way, when we go to Williamsburg area or further south, we take Rte 695 around Baltimore, onto Rte 97 to Rte 3, which connects to Rte. 301 down past Fort A. P. Hill Army baseand then over to Rte 95. [Sounds complicated, but not]

Rte 301 is 4 lane with traffic lights, 55MPH, but takes away the aggravation of Rte 95.

There is a toll bridge just below Newburg, VA over the Patomic river.

Happy Motoring.Edited by: seabee
