Any recommendations on a nice campground around Tucson for four nights?

I'm currently staying at our favorite...Catalina State Park. Huge sites, water & electric hookups, great over the air TV reception, spotless restrooms and showers, right at the base of the Catalina Mountains, every shopping need within 2-3 miles. This is our third visit here and will continue to come back. Have stayed at other large campgrounds around Tucson but have been disappointed in every one.

Russ, are you still at Catalina SP in AZ.?? Do they hold you to the 14 day limit, or are they flexible this time of the year?

Lloyd-

Left Catalina Monday and are currently in Bluff, UT. This time of year they don't hold you to the 14 day limit. We stayed two weeks this year, three weeks last year. The campground had more open spots than filled. Met lots of folks from Colorado escaping the snow like we are. It was great and we'll go back next year...unless there's a Texas Rally.

Russ:

Thanks for the come back. Glad you enjoyed your time away from the snow. Don't head back into it to quickly now.
Another question---Have you ever camped at Tortilla Flats?? That's in the Superstition Mts. east of Apache Junction. We have been through there many times, but never camped there. It's on my to do list.

Haven't stayed camped at Tortilla but several people I've talked to while in Catalina have said good things about Lost Dutchmen State Park. It's on my list too. We're headed for Fruita, CO on Sunday for 5 nights. That puts us 3 hours drive from home. Joyce has a doctor checkup on 5/8 which means we'll leave the trailer in Fruita for a trip home on 5/7, go to her appointment next morning, then back to the trailer in Fruita that afternoon. From there...who knows. We'll be camping and not sitting around the house waiting for the snow to melt and the ground to appear. I love the "R" life!
