I lived in Sarasota for years. Not far from Oscar Shearer actually. Most all of the FL State Parks I have been to are really nice. The Myakka was always my favorite.

Hey Bert - I can highly recommend Myakka. It's huge and wonderful! Lots of roads to bike on and plenty of hiking. Very woodsy - nice canopy of trees everywhere and many other diverse habitats. Another favorite of ours - which sounds like it might be pretty close to you - is Sebastian Inlet. Definitely a place to camp in the summer (not so much in January), but we LOVE it there!

Good luck! Long as you have your camper and your family, good times will follow!

Great spots. Thank you! What's a good spot at Sebastion?

Bert when we went in August we stayed in 25. It was a good site, as were most of the sites around there. When we go back, we're going to try to get Site 10. It's right on the water (or at least as close as you can get on the other side of the park road). It says you cannot have trailers on that site longer than 30 feet, and ours is technically 32 (bumper to hitch), but there was a TT our size in that spot last time, so we know we can do it. Not sure about yours...I think you've got a couple of feet on us.

There's not a ton to do right at the campgrounds, but lots to do in the park. We boogie-boarded and hung out on the beach, walked out on the pier, snorkeled. The Atlantic is gorgeous! And, of course, it's a renowned area for fishing.

Have any of you stayed at Anastasia State Park? And if so, what time of year and what spot did you like?

Yes - we stayed in June of 2012 in site 112. I remember liking the site and loving the park! It's a beautiful part of Florida!! But I will warn you that some of the roads along through the campgrounds are pretty tight. We had our pop-up then, so it wasn't a big deal. But we saw some guy trying to bring a big 5th wheel through and rip the side right off of it. Obviously I'd still recommend it...I'm just saying be careful when you go!

Thanks, Amy. Wonder if our Zinger could make it?

Depends on how confident you are with your driving. I'm sure that 5th Wheel could have made it...just cut it too tight. Not much room to work with...but it's doable!

I think if you look at the campground map for Anastasia State park, if you can find a site that will hold your size trailer on the curves you might have a better angle to back into the site, call and ask the rangers when you find a few that might work, very tight with the trees in that park. But if you can find a site where when you make the curve you can just back in, those did not look to bad.
