We live in Florida and are trying to find some new camping spots close by. We live in South Florida. We've done Jonathan Dickinson, Ft. Despot, Peace River, Fort Wilderness, a few in Broward County. So far Hillsborough River State Park has been our favorite. Not comparing it to Ft. Wilderness in Disney they are 2 different animals.

Can any one suggest a park below I4 that is like a Hillsborough River? We like the tree canopies and we love to,hike through trails. Keep in mind our rig is 36 ft. From bumper to hitch.

oh, did you look at Destin? Not from Florida so I'm sure if any of places you mentioned are in Destin but that place was awesome and from what I hear has camping on the beach.

We would love to go to Destin, but it's a long drive from here. Where looking for some closer parks in middle to south Florida.

Grayton State Park, Full hook up and private beach. Halfway between Destin and Panama City Beach. Seaside and Watercolor towns next door.

Fort De soto is nice. We stayed there a few years back. That Sun N Fun place looks pretty nice. I might save that one for the summer. Thank you for the suggestions.

Wekiwa Springs looks nice. Let me know how it goes. It looks like it's under renovations right now. The website says they should be all done by Jan. 1.

Thanks for all the Florida suggestions as we will go back there camping. Do any of you know of places to avoid? What about Corps of Engineer sites?

I do not recommend EG Simmons outside of Tampa. Nice place, nice area but the nosseums and Mosquitos are completely unbearable. If they can figure out a way to get rid of them then it would be a great weekend spot.

You might like Highland Hammock or Myakka River State Park. We live in Citrus County and if you know some great Southern campgrounds let us know Have you ever camped at Flamingo, would like to try that.

I've heard a lot of nice things about Highland Hammock. The problem is this time of the year State Parks are tough to get into. I'm too chicken to just drive there and hope I get a walk up site. I was looking at Myakka it too is full for the time we are going. We want to travel after Xmas.

Jonathan Dickenson State Park is nice. Markham Park in Sunrise ,Fl. Is a nice county park. It's a great park to use as home base to sight see the Ft. Lauderdale and even Miami area.

Here are some more parks to check out in Florida : Stephen Foster, Manatee Springs, Long Key, Oscar Scherer, Hanna Park, Fort Clinch, St Andrews, and O'Leno to name just a few. Where are you located in SW Florida? We are in Sarasota. We have camped at Corps parks in GA and they were nice.

We are actually in SE Florida. Pembroke Pines just West of Ft. Lauderdale. Thanks I'm going to check these out. We may go to Fisheating Creek. But I'm going to look at your suggestions first.

The state parks in Florida are tough to get into, you have to book early. I have small children so we camp when schools out.

Thanks. A lot of nice places. I like the City and County parks because those are hard to find.
