Get a reservation at the Portal Campground in Moab. Great place, great people.

It's about 3-5 miles north of Moab. It is a great place. Dead horse Point, and several other parks are within 50 miles or so. Too many great places, so little time!

I had heard that one of the famous arches had collapsed - is it true?

We were there this summer, and all the arches were in tact. Which arch was it? I think I have pictures of every arch there.

When did you stay at Portal? That was the first place we chose to stay at. However, they didn't have the swimming pool finished, so we switched to a different campground. We drove through the campground when we were there last summer, and it is in the process of being converted to a park in which they sell the sites, so its quite a mess now.

Last stay at the Portal was this past May. They were working on the swimming pool and adjacent clubhouse but at that time there was no major mess. They've completed the first phase of their "for sale" pads but still had lots of room in the general sites. They may be converting them by now but don't know the exact status.
