Thanks for the pictures and helpful hints. We are now on day two of our trip and have arrived in Casey, IL. We are at the KOA because it is just off the highway (I-70). Last night we boondocked in Windsor, ON. No issues so far, just some slow traffic due to construction in some spots. Tomorrow night we will be boondocking in Kansas and the following night will be our first sight-seeing destination: Colorado Springs.

We ended up in Topeka, Kansas tonight instead of boomdocking in Junction City, which was our original plan. Hubby wanted some comforts! We are at the KOA, which incidentally is the same one we stayed at two years ago on our Oregon Trail trip.

If you have the time, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison is worth seeing. It is in Colorado on hwy 50 just east of Montrose.

We arrived at Colorado Springs today after a long drive from Topeka. A bit of rain here. Looking forward to staying put for a few days.

Loneoak, if you get the chance go to Jerome, Az (unhitched) it's south of Sedona just above Cottonwood (yes above) on the side of a mountain. It's an artsy town and its Main Street is a switchback (thus the unhitched part). It's really something to see.

Also, if you like lazy days and a nice change of pace, try the Salt River Tubing. Just don't do the 6.5 hour run unless you have plenty of sun screen! If you've never done it before, it's just a super nice float down the river with nice AZ scenery. You rent tubes at the main building and they bus you and the tubes to different drop off points.

Day one, Colorado Springs. Visited Pike's Peak and the Cheyenne Canyon. The elevation on top of Pike's Peak is just over 14,000 feet. I felt a bit dizzy and got a headache at that altitude.

Picture shows Colorado Springs from the Cheyenne Canyon.

We still have to decide what else to see here and how long to stay before moving on to Durango, our next stop.

Boy you are getting close to the home place, Ouray, I miss it in the spring, but not fall winter or spring. It gets all kind of white stuff. It is on my bucket list never ever to do the WXXX stuff ever again

We have arrived in Durango, CO after a long day on the road. First, the water pump in the trailer quit. Then about an hour into the trip a passing motorist alerted us to a problem. We checked and found one of the straps holding the under carriage cover had come loose and was dragging. My husband taped it up temporarily. We found an RV dealer several hours later and they repaired that and replaced the water pump. The diaphragm was shot.

There were two mountain passes to negotiate. The truck was not happy, probably due to the thin air, but she did the job without overheating. The second pass, Wolf Creek, was especially scenic.

Tomorrow is a down day so we can do laundry, clean the unit inside and check out the town. We hope to take the Durango-Silverton train trip and also visit the Mesa Verde Indian cliff dwellings.

I tried to upload a picture, but I guess the internet isn't good enough here.

We loved the train ride. Yesterday we drove to Silverton, toured an old gold mine, and then drove to Ouray and back. This was a beautiful drive! It was a bit scary as there are no guard rails along the road which had very steep drop-offs. It would take sliding off the road in winter to a whole new level, I think!

Today we are doing Mesa Verda and tomorrow we head to Moab, Utah.

Here is a picture I took along the way.

Million Dollar highway is the most beautiful road in Colorado. I love the San Juan mountains.

Gee-OR-G-us

pics allow us at the office to dream - keep em coming !!

We actually made tow trips up to Pike's Peak the same week when we were in the area - once on the cog railway (and they warned us to take it easy once there or you will get dizzy)
and the next day by van...

normally I drive, but I allowed others to drive so I could enjoy the scenery more !

enjoy !
