Myrtle Beach Trip Report

Just completed a 87 day "Snow Bird" stay, in our 34 foot Sunset Trail Reserve RK 5er, at Willow Tree RV Resort in Myrtle Beach. It was our 1st long outing, so we did not know what quite to expect. 1st the resort: It is an amazing resort, located in Longs, SC ,about 15 miles inland from Myrtle Beach SC. 110 pull through, paved sites with concrete patios. It is between a quarter to half acres between each site with full hookups and fire ring. The staff goes out of their was to make sure each guest has everything they need, from mail to propane fill & drop off at each site. Some of the sites on the lake even have hot tubs The bath house has individual shower rooms & the laundry, bath house, club house etc are immaculate. We highly recommend this resort if you are in the Myrtle area. Easily the nicest RV resort in the Southeast.
Our stay: We store our 5er near Myrtle Beach so when we arrived in one hell of a thunderstorm, our 5er was already set up by the storage facility, with heat, lights, water and sewer already hooked up for us. All we had to do was run from the vehicle to the RV. A nice touch in bad weather.
About a week into the stay the furnace started getting a little goofy. Turn it on once and it worked fine. Next time we turned it on, the AC came on. Next time we turned it on BOTH the AC and furnace came on. Threw the AC breaker to cure the immediate problem and asked at the desk for a tech recommendation. When the guy arrived, took him about two minutes to figure out it was the furnace/ac control box (strangely located inside the AC) that was bad. Took a couple days to get a new box that fixed the problem. While he was on the roof, getting a serial number he photographed what appeared to be 4 cracks starting to form in the sealant around the AC and vents. So when he came back with the control unit we had him reseal around all roof openings. I mention this because I inspected the roof in September & there were no cracks. That's how quick they develop. So...................check your roof often. Three weeks later, the power awnings got stuck in the out position. After blowing two fuses, I jumped the awning motors with a battery jumper and just left them in for the rest of the trip. Was told it was the sending unit that went bad. Pure junk! Will most likely never use the awnings again. So all in all, it was not a RV (ruined vacation) The 5er had plenty of storage (I think my wife emptied the house for the trip) & kept us warm and dry. We arrived back in WV to 41 degree weather, and when we awoke we were greeted by snow covered ground. Maybe came back just a little early, lol. My wife has already started a "5er list" for our next years migration back to Myrtle in Jan. We will also get in a couple shorter trips in the spring and fall. All in all, a very pleasant three months.

Wow what nice place and seams to be real reasonable rent. What site did you have and any recommendations on other sites there?

We were on site 106 at the rear of the resort. We have three dogs, so it worked well for walking them. Out the door, across the road and into the weeds. For some reason they all like to do dog business in tall grass. We have asked for the same site next winter. Any of the sites are great-just depends on what you want during your stay. It is just far enough in the country to avoid the summer Myrtle Beach traffic. And yes, the resort is heads & tails over any place we have seen. Talked to one couple from Canada that traveled out west, down the coast of Ca and back across the southern route. They stayed in 32 different RV parks and were planning on working up the East Coast. When they saw Willowtree, they just stopped traveling. That says a lot for the place.
