Theodore Roosevelt National Park is North Dakota is a great place to go! Went there in summer of 2008. There are 2 "units" to this park, the North Unit and the South Unit. They are about 80 miles apart and both are worth seeing. One of the best parts about this park is that it is not crowded at all. We were there in mid June and stayed in the park CGs in both North and South Units. There were only about 6 campers in the North Unit. The South Unit was more crowded but we still had no problems finding a great site. The North Unit has a water fill and dump station that are easily accessed. The South Unit has water fill "stations" that are designed for "carrying" water and not filling your tank so come into the South unit full of H2O or plan on carrying it to your site and filling that way. There is also no dump station in the South Unit CG but you can dump for free just outside the entrance to the park in the town of Medora. It was very convenient. You should be sure to see both N and S units of this park. They are similar in some ways and very different in others. We absolutely loved it and will visit again when we go back that way. If you visit the south unit be certain to take the hike to the petrified forest. There is a long hike (7 miles round trip)or a short hike you can take to get to it. Talk to the rangers for the exact directions on the short hike. It was one of our favorite parts of the entire trip. We spent approx.7 days between the 2 parks. A tip for National Parks.. Strike up conversations with the Rangers. They are almost always very eager to talk and they will share a lot of info with you that most people never get if they just come and look around.
