We are planning to go to the Canyonlands in Utah in September. This is an area we have never visited so we are seeking asvice from our Cross Roads forum friends. We plan to stay at least ten or twelve days and would prefer to move only two or three times so would also like advice on your favorite places to visit as am sure we will not be able to take in everything.

Thanks to everyone and happy camping!

We stayed at the Moab rv resort and had a great time. We visited Canyonlands but that was only two days to see it. With a fourwheel drive or a toy could see more there. I spent 3 days at Arches with different hikes each day. If they are still running the river boat cruises I would recommend the sunset cruise. Hot and dusty but enjoyed the time very much.

You might find a visit to Dead Horse Point State Park just outside Moab worthwhile. Much of the park consists of a narrow plateau above (far, far above) a river. The story is that they used to drive wild horses out onto the plateau because its entry was narrow and easily fenced off, trapping the horses on this high piece of ground with nowhere to go. But the horses could smell or sense somehow that the river was below them and jumped to their deaths trying to get to the water.

Yes, amazing views at Dead Horse Point. We like to base camp at the Portal RV Resort in Moab then head out to Arches, Needles, Dead Horse, etc. from there.

Thanks to all who wrote. The hot part is bothering me as we usually head to Colorado this time of year to escape the heat here but cannot do so this year. Hate to prolong summer by going somewhere hot just as the temps are moderating here but may do so anyway as know the scenery will be worth it. Afraid the comment about the ATV will push hubby over the edge as he has been wanting one for a while now. I have agreed to a Razor but he is determined to get a twoup and would just love to have me on that thing too far from camp to walk back!

Love camping and the friendly helpfulness of camping folks.

Be safe out there.

The first part of September can be warm, but who knows. I would think Sept. would be a good time to go, especially mid Sept.. We live about 105 miles from Moab and it's about 5-8 degrees warm there than we are. You could spend 3-4 days looking in the Arches park. Dead Horse Point and Canyon Lands are real close to each other, so you could see them from one camping spot. The Arches entrance is about 5 miles south of the Canyon Lands exit on the highway. The Arches entrance to the camping area is about 18 miles, if I remember correctly. It's a great area to visit. Happy camping.

We enjoyed all of those places. Do try to do the Canyonlands by Night Boat ride. http://www.canyonlandsbynight.com/
This was just awesome!! been going on since the 1920's and we've sent tons of friends there. Hugs, Di

Was in that area a couple of years ago, and stayed in CG outside the parks. A lot of these parks provide bus service from the CG to the park at N/C We went to Brice and Zion and the bus was great as you did not need to drive anywhere and try to find parking.
