Carefree Travl'r Arm Replacement

2015 Rushmore Washington. Without getting specific, inadvertently damaged the idler arm on one of my Travl'r power awnings. The main scissor arm is bent. I have purchased a complete replacement arm from Carefree, and will soon undertake changing it. Has anyone had the pleasure of changing out one of the awning arms, and if so, any hints or suggestions? I am most concerned about causing damage to the front (motorized) arm and/or roller when disconnecting the other arm. Any suggestions on how I may be able to secure or support the roller and other arm while removing and replacing the damaged one? Any and all inputs would be greatly appreciated.

I just supported the roller with a second step ladder. Be VERY careful when removing the plastic wire ties that keep the new arm compressed! I cut one and the second was not strong enough to handle the pressure and it broke allowing the arm to spring open unexpectedly. Other than that,it was easy.

Thanks! I hope that I have a ladder tall enough. Question: Did you leave the awning rolled up or extend it for the arm replacement? From what I read in the Travl'r Service Manual it appears the awning should be fully extended prior to taking the idler (or motor) end loose. Is this correct?

I had the awning extended and used a lovely assistant on the ladder.

On our first trip of the season a few weeks ago...

DW: is it too windy for the awning?
Me: IDK
a few minutes later:
DW: Uh oh!!!
Me: $#@! @#$^, Quick! get me the ladder!

PRBaar, any additional advice you can provide the masses (or me in general) on changing out your awning arm? I just received my replacement arm (non motor end) and there were no directions or documents in the box.

Do I just unbolt the roller from the arm and then proceed to remove and replace the arm?

I'm waiting for new arms from Crossroads because they put the wrong arms on my 2016. Said they will pay to replace or pay me if I want to do it myself. I'm pretty handy and can do most jobs so I'm trying to decide. I haven't received the arms yet. Is there a video showing replacement of Solera power awning.

Sorry John, I took the easy way out. Had my Rushmore in to the dealership for annual maintenance and asked them what they would charge to replace the arm for me (which I already had). They quoted me $100 for labor, and since I really have no place where I could work on the RV (Home Owner's Association and the fact I have to store my unit at a commercial facility with no room to work), I elected to have them do it. It really would not have been too difficult if one has the room and enough means (ladders/scaffolding) and help to support the awning while replacing the arm.

By the way, I am retired USAF as well.
