Electric Awning Woes......

We took the Rushmore up to East Texas for Christmas. We've had it over two years and only towed a few miles from the dealer. Tows great with the dually and the B & W hitch.

We did have an issue with the Dometic electric awning. It went out about 4 feet and stopped. Would only move 1/4 turn in or out. I failed to carry a ladder (really need two). Backed the truck up beside the RV and my son and I got on the toolbox and bed rail to roll it up.

I would advise anyone that has the electric awning to be prepared as to what to do if the awning motor goes out.(You know how long it takes to get mobile service!) You can take the motor bracket out of the support arm, unplug it and roll it up, but it won't go all the way. You'll still have some loose fabric and the arms will be away from the RV a few inches.

My service man came and installed a new motor today. Problem fixed.

Here is the recommended way to manually roll up the awning.

Quote:
In Case Of Coach Power Failure Or To Manually Close Awning:
Important: This procedure will require two people. When this procedure has been performed, the awning must be serviced by a Dometic Service Center or a qualified service technician before using again.

1. Slide the pull strap (provided) into the utility slot of the FRTA.

2. While one person is holding onto the pull strap, remove the screw in the top of the right top casting. The FRTA will immediately roll in once the bolt is removed. Walk the awning to the closed position.

3. Align hole where screw was removed and replace

Thanks, but that would not work with my awning. The motor was locked up. I don't know what model that is for, but mine has two screws 90* apart on the end. The single bolt removes the whole motor bracket from the arm. A strap would be of little use in that situation. I did try to download the video from the Dometic site, but wouldn't you know, it wouldn't load. I have the motor, and am going to disassemble it for future knowledge about it.
