I'm sure there will be many comments on where & how, this is how I did mine. I removed the line voltage wire from the generator transfer switch, & put a receptacle on the wires. I then put a 50 amp cord with a plug, back into the line side of the transfer switch (about 2'). On my surge protector, I put a plug onto the line side & on the load side I put a receptacle. I then mounted the s/p on the wall near the generator transfer switch, plugged the line side of the s/p into the line side receptacle (from the shore power) & then plugged the load side receptacle of the s/p, back into the line side plug of the transfer switch. I did not hard wire it into my RV, as I may sell it one day, & I can just unplug the s/p & plug back the transfer switch, without having to move anymore wires. I then mounted the control display inside, next to the tv & ran the cable back to the s/p. I know I don't have the generator side of the transfer switch protected, but I will never run on a generator, the transfer switch came with my RV.
