AC running when on furnace

We have a 2013 Z-1 with a 13.5 AC. It has a Dometic digital thermostat. When I flip it to furnace and set the temp say on 68. The AC will run and blow cold air. Now the furnace will kick on and blow warm air as well.

I am new to the travel trailer space -- we had a popup previously -- so I am unsure as to if this is normal behavior.

Any help would be appreciated.

Seems odd the AC would run when it is set to furnace. My first thought was that it was on automatic and you were setting the temp below the interior temp and the air conditioning cut in to bring the temp down. This almost makes me wonder if the wires are crossed somewhere. If you have a heat or cool setting and the air conditioning runs on heat there is something wrong. Obviously not completely backward given that you said the furnace kicked on and blew warm air.

Did your AC just cut in temporarily? or did it stay on for awhile? Just trying to get a better idea what is going on. Do you have the model of your thermostat?

The only other thing I can think of without knowing your thermostat model is that sometimes the AC fan will turn on to help circulate air in the RV while the furnace is running.

It helps to dry out anything wet inside also. My 300BH has the digital thermostat (not sure if it is a dometic) and does the same thing, but sporadically.

I'd love to know how to set it to run the AC with Heat and the ability to turn it off/on...

I'd call Customer support. Last year I believe was the first year for the digital thermostats from the factory. During our walkthrough on our 2013, the dealer tech couldnt figure out the thermostat either...just never got around to calling customer service.

I have a 2010 Kingston with 2 AC units. On one of my first trips in the camper over New Years I decided to run the fan on the bedroom unit for noise while also having the furnace on. To my surprise the fan would not come on with heat selected on the dual zone thermostat. After inquiring about this with my dealer, I was provided with documentation stating that this is the way the system was designed. The bottom line (at least for my system) is that if heat is selected, neither one of the AC units or fans will operate.

Mine did the same, if you read the manual it can be changed . I believe by changing the fan setting to low from auto. It runs both fans on heat setting for better circulation. Sorry I can't access my manual as it is snowed in right now.

Make sure your fan is set to auto. If you have the fan on anything but auto it will blow cool air from the ceiling, while your furnace blows hot air from the floor.

Our SF32RL does the same. Its been designed / set to 1st go to "Heat Pump(A/C)" for heat, then LP furnace. Checks for demand; outside temp; Elect. Power available; w/ low volts will still run fan w/o compressor; . . .
Only has been a problem when using generator instead of shorepower. 2nd attempt at cycleing compressor defaults to fan & furnace.
Fireplace Elect Heat has no problem w/ generator & generator doesn't mind Fireplace.

CW3 is correct. With Dometic thermostat, fan must be on "AU" (auto) or a/c fan comes on with furnace.

This is correct. I guess at some point we moved the fan setting off of Auto and as soon as I switched it back to Auto the AC fans stopped blowing.

THANKS! Just had this issue and googled it and it brought me here. You answered and fixed me! Somehow my fan setting had changed to high. Love that people share their knowledge and help others. Thanks again.
