I have seen a number of videos on the "tube" on how to build a portable A/C unit with a 12v fan. I am intersetd in this to keep the kids cool in the tent while were on vacation but if it's not going to work then I'll get a small portable 5000 btu as we'll be in Disney and I can rig that up easy. Anyone build or use one of these successfully?

Ken, I have seen portable AC units on several websites. There are also directions on how to make a "swamp cooler" out of a cooler and a fan. Check the internet for directions on how to make a swamp cooler. Hope this helps.

Portable AC units are available just about any place. I believe they have to vent the discharge/hot air, outside in order to work properly.
Swamp coolers are usually only found in drier climates. They use water to cool, and our humid environment in the mid central part of the US and the E coast is not a good climate for them.
