New Z-1 218TD
Hi all, I just bought a Z-1 218TD, and I pull it with a 2014 Ram 1500 with the Hemi and have no issues with power. I do however have an issue with the tongue weight. I installed airbags, and the trailer sits perfectly level with the deck empty, but as soon as I put 1 quad on it, my truck sits right down. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks

I have a '14 Ram 1500 too and just air bagged the rear coils with a set of the airlift 1000. We pull a Sunset Trail ST270BH and I'm estimating I have about 850-900# of tongue weight now. Airbags set to 25 psi helped to level this right out, no problem. We have no issues with pulling power either, it's a workhorse.
What brand of airbags did you install and what psi are you setting it at?
I see that your unit has 604# of dry tongue weight. Add propane (40#), add battery (50#), add wd hitch (100#); now you are almost 800#. Add percentage of weight of your quads and voila, you are well over 1000#. I don't know how heavy quads, but I know they can be heavy. You may seriously want to invest in tongue scale to know where you are at.

if it squats ....tighten up the chains or what ever system you have ..should not need air bags. If you sit level without quad , mark that link , then add quad and see what link you need ...might be 2 more links than before..and you are good. mark both so you know which .

So what was the final outcome? I am a new owner myself of this same model. Will be delivered on 2/25/2015 to my house. I have a 1998 K1500 chevy with the 350 motor. I still feel that when I will have it fully loaded with 2 quads on front that I will need a bigger truck. What I will do once weather is better around here is do a mock run to the CAT scale and let others know what the outcome is of that scenario. I will end up towing with a 2500 chevy, and WD hitch as well to keep things safe on the road. Once I hit the scales I will know what size WD hitch to get.

I pull my 2014 with an '06 Ram 1500 with no problem. I do use an equalizer hitch. I've never towed anything without a weight distributing hitch and can't imagine doing so. I load up my Suzuki Boulevard on the trailer and a smaller bike in the back of the truck and, with the hitch, it's always level.

on your ram 1500, what does it say on your receiver as far as maximum weight with a WD hitch? And do you know exactly what your weights are on your deck? I have done plenty of homework on mine and what I put on it. a 1500 will not cut it for mine, I have an '01 2500HD that I use.

Z1 218
I'm thinking about buying a 2015 218. I will be hauling dirt bikes. My truck is a F250.
This looks like a nice unit. Anyone have any advice on this? Will I need a wd hitch?
Thanks

We enjoy the heck out of ours. With dirt bikes you will want to get those chocks to hold the wheels in place. I recommend a WD hitch.

If this unit is 35 feet long as the specs I looked at states, then yes, you should have a WD / sway control set up. Your truck weight will help tremendously though keeping control.
