2" receivers

What is the best way to mount a 2" receiver on the rear of a cruiser 27 RL, will be used for a 2 place bike rack?

I would frame mount it.

Check with Crossroads to see how they did it for the CF27RLX. It came standard on our 2010 model. I would think the frames are the same except the mounting of the axles. We haul our 2 bikes on it with a 2"receiverbike rack on the back. It works perfectly.

I welded a 2" X 4" steel tube to each frame rail. They extended from the hitch location 24" towards the axles. Welded both sides of the box section to the frame. Mounted the same box section crosswise at the rear and about 8" forward. The 2" receiver section was attached through the cross box sections.

I just haul a honda generator on a platform and have used the 4x4 bumper for the last 2 + years. It a FW camper and the bumpers are welded to the camper better than the travel trailers I feel.I bought the Curt hitch that slides over a 4 inch bumper and have had no problems.My inlaw does the same and together we have better than 20 years doing the same way with no problems.My dealer said he thought anything under 300 lbs wouldn't be a problem anyway. This is not saying you should do it, its just telling you it is done this way and on mine with out troubles.

i welded one reciever tube to each frame rail. then i madea platform for our tandem schwinn & generator. its very stable. also picked up a front "behind the bumper" receiver.it works real good with my four bike-bike rack.

Spinella I made one a lot like yours only my recievers are welded to the bottom of the frame.

i kept my receiver tubes pulled up so they are touchng the square tube bumper. it gave me a little more ground clearence.

I had to raise my camper 4&1/2" so height should be about the same.

I agree with George, if your trailer is less than 2 years old don't touch the frame unless you call Lippert first about your frame warranty. Been there, done that.

I had a company come out to my house and weld a hitch on the back for me. It was actually pretty cheap at around $250.00. They did it right in my driveway.





They first welded a tube straight across the frame rails,about 2 ft back from the bumper. Then they centered the receiver tube and welded it to the crossmember and then also welded it to the bottom of the bumper so that it doesnt flex up and down at all and twist the 2" tube they welded across the frame rails. It works great and doesnt move an inch.



I had my neighbor follow me one day down some pretty bumpy road with my 3 bike rack on the back. He said it didnt move at all either side to side I have a hitch tightener that tightens the hitch to keep itfrom swaying side to side)or up and down.
