2003 28' TT sway problems

I have a 2003 28' TT with searous sway problems. I use a Reese hitch with cam weight equalizer bars. I have noticed the trailer only has about 18" more trailer in front of the axles than behind. I am wondering if this could be part of the problem.
Anyone have similar problems ?

Having bent axles could cause the TT not to track right or it could be not having enough tongue weight ( 10%to 12%) could cause swaying.

Trailer is a 2003 Crossroads travel trailer 28'
Towing with a 2007 Dodge Mega Cap 1500 (a 2500 chassie 6600 lb. )
5.7 Hemi auto trans.

measure the tongue weight or simply load heavy stuff to the front temporarly to see if it helps.

Like I said in the first post the center of the axles are only 18" rear of center.
I notice most if not all of the new trailers have a much greater axel off set.
Has anyone had an issue with this ?
As ask in a previous post the axles are not bent and track true.

If the axles are closer to center, it would theoretically make it much easier to put too much weight to the rear. I would also check to make sure your tongue weight is correct. Also, make sure that the cam bars for your WD hitch are for the correct trailer weight. They make several different sizes.

I would start with your hitch. Make sure it is adjusted correctly. Then you could drop another link so the bars are tighter adding more pressure to the cams to increase sway control. Also if you do not have the reese instructions to setup your hitch see if you can find them they will be a big help. As to the axles being slightly rear of center. That was normal for a lot of different brands. If you can look up your tt and see what the tongue weight is will help.

X2 in checking your dialed in settings in the hitch and tongue weight. Get yourself a scale. Worth the hundred bucks to check whenever you load up. I know it’s counter intuitive but that front storage area can be loaded up to much. I got a scale and was shocked how much “junk” weighs up front.

I agree with Ohio and Dags comments above - Its all about correct hitch setup and is your trailer level while towing - correct hitch ball height and weight distribution in the trailer to apply the correct amount of weight on the Hitch is the thing - and if you are tightening your sway bars manually the general rule is you can't tighten them too much - also the correct size sway bars are very important. Don't trust what the sales guy sold you - do your own reseach and confirm. This is what I learned when I was twoing a bumper pull.

Also check all spring and axle bolt torque's - I found that these bolts were very under toqued on my crossroads 5th wheel as did many others.

Also check your wheel bearings - do you have a loose one ? maybe you have a bearing about to fail??

Bottom line - if the trailer is pulling you around and it nots becaise of wind or passing semi's - something is wrong and possibly dangerous.

I agree with the comments above. Probably a combination of load and weight balance in the trailer and hitch adjustments.

If you make those adjustments and still have an issue check the tires on your truck. I once had a tow vehicle that had too soft of side wall on the tires, once I switched to a heavier load rating tire that helped to cure some sway issues as well.

I would second this comment. I had a lot less trouble with sway and “squishiness” (which felt like sway to me)until I upgraded the 4 ply tires that came on the truck with a good 10 ply. Rides a lot better.
