Hunter11, just FYI, my 2011 with the newer 6.7 has the urea and with 17K and at least 10K with a trailer behind it, I have absolutely no issues with soot. The engine also runs smoother than my 08 F450 did with the DPF/burner. Also net out at about a 25% increase over the 08 on mileage.

Daniel, I may be wrong but I think that is only the 4500 and 5500 that are using Urea injection since 2011. Dodge will be adding it to the 2500 and 3500 in 2013. I have no doubt once they add it like the other two diesels a lot of the issues will clear up. I just don't want one until they do.

delqcc, Keith is right about only the 4500 and 5500 C&C having UREA. 2013 will be the first year for all of the Dodge diesels to use UREA. Also, I hope a salesman did not tell you your truck has 400hp and 800p of torque. The 4500 & 5500 C&C's do use the Aisin tranny but they have reduced hp and torque #'s. I believe the hp and torque is the same as it is on the 2500 and 3500 trucks with the manual tranny. Ok, I just looked it up and the hp is 305 and the torque is 610.Edited by: HEH458

About the vent control problem:

I had it repaired by my mechanic here in Oakhurst. It seems inside the dash there is a box that has doors that open and close according to what the switch positions are on the dash controls. (heat to feet, heat to face, defrost etc)

My guy told me that there are stops or plastic pins that break inside this box. (I think it's called a plenum) When this happens the door will stay open in one position. Then you get no defroster in my case.

He removed the dash (big mess) He bolted wood blocks where these pins were and now it will never break and it works perfect $600

My wife's 06 had the blend door break but it was still under warranty. I was told by the dealer it would have been a $800 to $1k repair by them.

Daniel & Hunter,
Forgive my ignorance. Is this not the same EREA that I was spreading on the farm fields back in the 70's? That stuff would eat your finger off. How do these new diesels use Erea? Is it still as caustic to the engine and truck body? As I recall mixing fuel and fertilizer can cause a big bang. It sure aids in blowing pot holes in the marsh.

I would pick up Erea from a bulk plant and drive it to the farm in an OLD IH. I dropped Erea from the cracks and holes in that wooden box all of the way back. I always figured that I kept several County workers busy all summer cutting down weeds along the roadways. DW once threw a handful in the garden, had tomatoes plants 8' tall and NO fruit. We were young and dumb.

On the vent door problem.
I got my shop manual out the other day and started looking into it. Pulled off the Instrument panel and pulled out the A/C control, it looked ok, Then underneath the dash there is a connector for the Vacuum lines, pulled that apart and tested for vacuum and worked each door. Sure enough the floor vent door was stuck open. I could see that the arm from the control had come off the door. I just couldnt reach it. So pulled off the Cup holder and still no go. Then under the cup holder there is another plastic housing that covers the Air bag control module, mounted in a metal bracket, was able to remove the bracket and module(didnt have to unplug module). I was able to reach the arm and lever, but you had to reach up around and twist and cuss and throw things and even kick the dog to get the lever back on, then I discovered the pin on the lever that goes into the arm is broke. There was just no way I could fix it without pulling the whole dash off. So I took a good stiff piece of foam and was able to wedge it so the control arm would keep the door closed. So at least now I have air to my upper vents and the defrost works. If I decide to keep my truck I will fix it. If you have the big shop manual it shows you how to remove the dash to get to it. It is more time consuming than anything. The big thing when working under the dash you need to disconnect your batteries and wait about 2-3 minutes before doing anything. That will discharge the circuit that can deploy the airbags.

Now on to the New Dodge Diesel.
The more I look into I just dont know. After going to the Dodge Diesel forum and reading about this repurging system and people having trouble with soot build up, getting the code 80% plugged up, then have to go out and drive around so the soot can burn off. Not sure what to do. About everyone on that site says to do Deletes (remove the emission stuff) and they get better fuel mileage and the truck runs better. Course if you do that it could very easily void your warranty. So I may look at a Ford. Sure wanted the Dodge because I can get a much better deal.

I have the 2012 Dodge Ram Cummins and I am very impressed with it. I have tons of towing power and get about 12mpg when towing and 20+ when running empty. When I took delivery on it, my dealer commented on how much quieter the 2012's were compared to previous models. My wife didn't like the idea of having the extra width of dualies so I stepped up to the 3500 and went with the 3.70 rear end. Like you, I sought the opinions of others on this forum and I am very pleased with the advise I received. My truck is loaded, the only options I didn't get were dualies, rear dvd player and 4WD. My wife and I have no use for the rear dvd player and I figured that, for the few times that 4WD might be nice, I couldn't justify the loss of mpg and the extra cost. Every other option, including the high end stereo/GPS system is on my truck and I love it.

As far as I know the emissions equipment is all the same since 2010. If you could hold off until the 2013 models come out they will have the Urea injection like the Ford and Chevy have now. That should help with the current issues they are having.

Let me know how he likes it, and mpg towing. I just traded my 2009 hemi 1500 in for a 2012 3500 diesel laramie SRW. I'm towing my 5er at the end of the month.
