7 pin

On the 7 pin trailer plug is the 12 volt pin the one that charges the TT battery when on the road?

Yep. It's not the one in the center though as that aux/back up lights.
You will have specific trailer relays and fuses under the hood, dedicated to those circuits.

Yes. On some vehicles that pin is always "hot," on others the tow vehicle engine has to be running.

One must ensure that the fuse is installed to energized the "charging" connection. On my 2005 Chevy I had to replace the dummy fuse with a real one (40 amp). On my 2011 the fuse was already installed.

The factory had a dummy fuse on the #7 center pin on my Tundra.

My F 150 had the "real" fuse in a plastic bag in my glove box.

My TrailBlazer had the fuse in the fuse box. I just needed to plug it in. It was already in place in my Silverado.

7 pin

I don't see a trailer charge fuse at all, I"ll have to ask a expert to look at it. Towing with this truck since new and didn't know it was not charging the TT batt. Our last TT had 2 batteries I guess that's why the batteries always had reserve power.

Martin gave a diagram that is the same as paying an "expert" to look at it.
Get your multi meter and check it out.

I had an auto parts guy and a mechanic miss mine. Dealer found it right away. I spent a couple hours looking myself so don't feel bad.

My fuse block was in the engine compartment. The fuse looked more like a relay than a fuse.

OK, there was no fuse, the wire for the 12 volt charge to the trailer has a loop end. This wire was never connected and was tied in a bundle with tape under the master cylinder. With help from the E-Trailer web site I was able to figure this out. If not for the wimpy battery in this TT I still might not know the truck never was charging the battery. I would like to have been a fly on the wall when the powers that be at GM came up with the plan to sell trucks with tow packages and leave the wires like this.
Thanks to all who share information on this website.

You will probably find the wire for the brake controler taped up between the fuse box and the drivers fender.

Not a bad dea to go back to the 7 pin with a vom and verify everything else is connected properly. Amazing!

Is the 7 Pin factory? I could see if the hitch was all aftermarket, the dealer would make those connections as part of the install.

7 pin is factory but on some brands the live wire is not connected from the factory. No big deal , just put the wire connector on the bolt and put a nut on it . And get a fuse at the dealership...free of course.
some trucks have them already hooked up.
