Just bought a 2010 zinger 26bh this past fall. just wondering if anybody else has one or similiar and tow w/ f150 3.55 supercrew. I'm a little worried about the hitch weight since it has a 900# empty weight. Not sure what to expect once it's loaded. My put my truck near/ over limit.

thanks!

What year is your truck? What engine (5.4, 4.6). Don't forget when calculating weights to allow for full tank of fuel, passenges, and whatever cargo is carried in the box. Also when loading the rv keeping it balanced is key.

it's an '06 5.4L supercrew. GVWR of 7200#. I weighed it on some gravel pit scales (noticed they were left on one night as driving by) and it showed 6000# with family and full tank of gas. Just a little concerned that I might be in trouble once I get the trailer loaded since it already has a dry tongue wt of 900#.

I had a '99 and '04 F150 super cab with 3.55, 5.4 engineand towed a 26' Sunline about 6000lbs with no problems. I now have an '09 F150 super cab with 3.73 axle, 5.4 engineand tow a CTX29RL 6900lbs empty and it does a great job.The truck is rated to tow 11300lbs and it does a great job. I think the 3.73 does make a big difference plus the '09 has about 30 more hp.

Depends where you tow. Flat lands? Little to no hills? no worries. Major hills? Lots of hills? Mountains? Worry ... and upgrade. It's not about going. My ST29RL weighs 7000# dry and it's moved by a garden tractor at the storage facility. Control, stopping, enough hp to get up hills safely & so on is more of a concern.

The 3.55 ratio will cause problems, even on flat roads, you will have problems maintaining speed with headwinds and running the A/C. Yes, fully loaded, you may be slightly over the truck's GVWR, and you may get by, but make sure you aren't exceeding the front or rear axle GAWRs. Since the '06 should be out of warranty, you could, for about $500, change the gear set to say 3.73 or 4.10 for improved towing performance. Or you might upgrade to as a minimum, an F150 with the 8800 # GVWR option and better gearing.

Offhand, I'd say that you have too much trailer for your truck. You'll need to look into your owners manual for specifics. It should tell you what your truck iscapable of towing safely. The 3.55 rear axle is really too light for a trailer with a GVWR of 7900lbs. As for the tongue weight, a good weight distribution hitch ought move some of that load on to the front wheels but you have ensure that your tires are able to handle the extra load. Half ton trucks generally come with passenger "P" tires and notlight truck"LT" tires.

Once you load up your trailer, its dead weight will be between 7000 and 7500lbs and according to the specifications for your trailer, it has approximately a 16% tongue weight ratio. If you use my guestimation for loaded trailer, you're looking at a tongue weight as high as 1200lbs or more. Havingnotpulled aTT ina long time, I can't say what you are in for when pulling this combination but I'm sure that you'll find it interesting inthe least.

My truck salesman once told me that if I want to use atruckto pull a trailer, then buy the trailer first and he'd buildme a truck to pull it.

I pulled a small cruiser it was a 27RL 5th wheel with a 250 gas with 3.73 gears, bad plan, it ate gas as fast as you could fill it, and I kept the truck less than a year and dumped it, if your going to change gears goe with 4.10's east alittle more fuel, but much better to pull, but remember that being able to pull is only half the battle, you need to be able to stop, and stop quick if you need to, I have a 350 Ford and I had to change from heavy duty brakes to severe duty ceramic pads to get mine to stop, big difference, make sure you are within the bounderies of your truck, too risky otherwise, and not worth the risk...good luck
