Ball grease

Should you grease the ball when towing? Also are the chains on the torsion bars supposed to dig into the frame of the trailer?

-yes on the grease , just a film. buy a ball cover (or soup can)to cover ball when unhooked to stop grease from getting on pant legs.
-dont have answer for chains.

If you can, post a picture about those chains. On mine (and others I've seen), the torsion bars ride under the frame. The chains pull those bars upward and connect to a hook mechanism which is mounted on the frame. The upward pull is straight up, and onto the hook. The chain never touches the TT frame. I assume you're talking about these chains, and not the safety tow chains at the hitch, which BTW, should also hang freely and not bind anything.

Yes the chains on the torsion bars. I have a spot on both sides of the frame. I'm assuming it's from tight turns and backing into the sites! I will post a picture tomorrow!

Agreed. Lightly coat the ball with grease. Most torsion bars have 3-5 links used that keep the TB's below the frame. If you're having to tighten them up too much and hit, make the necessary adjustments or add air bags.

I was thinking the same thing, but it looks like there is only one way to mount the bracket. What the heck?

I don't know why the pics did that. They posted sideways! In this pic I have the bracket open and the hook is pointed toward the ground.

They are mounted on the top of the aframe

This looks bad to me. Not only are the chains wrapped around the frame, the only thing holding them up is that the hook is "over the top." Ever other hook assembly I've seen has large cotter keys to keep the hook from flipping down. You don't have the right set up at all. Go back to where you got them! Google trailer WD hitches and look at the many images. The good news is that if the torsion bars are OK, then the fix is just a new pair of hook brackets. Good luck!

Hopefully these pics are better. I think the brackets are mounted correctly but I don't know if the chains rubbing the frame is correct.

Like said earlier, go to a dealer with used trailers and look at what other brackets look like . yours look like the pivot part is bolted backwards. If you bought from a dealer , take them back and ask the salesperson what they think is wrong with them...they will probably have to go to the back shop and ask. Look on the shelf for the same part to compare...Then have them replace them.

To me, it looks like the hook for the chain is on the inside if the bracket instead of the outside. Definitely something wrong.
