We have been told that we weren't suppose to lube the ball joint on the trailer hitch. Any comments on this subject. Larry& karen

I did when I had pull behinds - I used reese hitch ball lube. A high temp lithium grease will do. Can get messy so watch your clothes around it. I wiped the hitch ball off when I got to my destination and put on some fresh lube before I left.

I don't like metal to metal so I did as Norskeny. Got to stop that wear.

You can also get a plastic cover from CW for a few bucks to keep the grease off when you get too close.

I greased mine (as NorskeNY said - didn't like metal on metal). It was a mess at times and I ruined a few jeans bumping into it. I think some small utility trailers (like U-Haul) don't grease theirs as the ball provides the ground connection for the lights.

Always used the Reese lube when we had a TT. I split a tennis ball part way and put it on the ball so I wouldn,t get grease on me if I bumped into it.

If going on a long trip with the boat I will lube the ball. Did you ask for an explanation why not to lube the ball?Just curious...
