Braided Flex Lines
This week I pulled our trailer for the first time after installing new stainless brake lines and braided stainless flex lines.
I have to tell you what a difference the braided flex lines have made. The brakes are SOLID. Absolutely solid. Now the stainless hard lines did not do anything other than prevent another lost line to corrosion, (I recommend anyone with an older truck to put in stainless) HOWEVER, the braided lines feel so different that I am repeating myself on how much better the brakes feel.
Original OEM rubber lines expand, braided stainless doesn't. The last time I felt brakes this good was on the '65 Vette I totally rebuilt and shimmed the rotors to less than .002 runout. It had brakes like throwing out an anchor.
If you decide to do this, I purchased the ones for my truck from Summit Racing, they are Russell brand lines. I took the OEM brackets, cut them off with a Dremel tool cutoff, dealt with the rust on the metal, drill a hole in the end and reused them to attach the clips supplied with the Russell lines to reattach them in the OEM position.
Feel free to ask questions about the install, what I learned about GM ABS units, etc etc.
Yes, it is worth doing.
