Curt Q16 play

Hi all, I inherited this hitch with our trailer purchase. The hitch is less than a year old and only a couple trips on it. We had a Reese Titan R16 before this so its my only comparison.
I feel the Curt functions easier than the Reese but....
The Curt has enough play in it to shake my truck when the trailer catches up to us when braking. It is so severe that I am afraid it will snap something. I sent Curt pictures of the play and they say this is within specs.
I don't want to slam Curt, I am just looking to see if others experience the same jarring or do you find them solid?
Picture attached is during a tug test with moderate tension after hooking up. (note jaw separation)
Appreciate any feedback.
Cheers

Not sure many on here have a Curt. I'm sure if they did they would have responded. You may get a response on the Good Sam open roads forum, where the responses are not dedicated to only one manufacturer. Good Sam Club Open Roads Forum
Good luck

I have a curt q24 and is a good solid hitch with no chucking or banging. Have you checked all bolts on the hitch to make sure they are all tight. I have had Reese in the past that with the noise I thought the trailer was going to come through the truck when braking. I just replaced my rotoflex pin box withe the new flex air which both have the rubber insert at the pin which takes some of the movement up that a solid pin box will give you. The flex aire also has an airbag and shock. I would check your bolts and if you have a solid pin boxes it may just be the nature of the beast

Hi, i installed the same hitch in my truck early this year. we have towed the camper twice, once up to Heber, once to Ashfork so we have around 600 miles of towing on the hitch. the times i felt play i assumed was the hitch to rail connection. in my older truck i had a reese with pucks ,that hitch was noisy and had ALOT of play.
i agree with you the Curt operates much better than the Reese.

Appreciate the feedback.
I have checked all bolts and I do have a solid pin box.
I hope not to have to buy a Flex Air to compensate for loose tolerances in the hitch but will have to do either that or switch to another brand. (B&W??)
I am very interested to hear if anyone has that spread in their jaws that I show in the picture.
Cheers
