Does a weight distribution hitch need to be adjusted?

I have an Equalizer hitch that was installed by the dealer when I purchased my trailer, about 11 months ago. Everything has, and still seems to be, working just fine. But I notice it is a lot easer to put the swaybars in place now than it used to be. I don't have to lift the back of the TV near as high, and I never have to use the prybar that came with the hitch. I easily set them in place by hand. Everything seems to be working OK when I tow, I'm just wondering if this is normal or if I need to have it looked at...

When I had a Bumper TT, I always had to use the bar to install the chains. I used the jack to lift the vehicles, attached the chains and lowered the vehicles. If you can put the chains on without the bar, I believe SOMETHING has changed and your not getting enough trailer weight shift to the tow vehicle.

OP has equalizer ,probably 4pt with L bracket and square bars ...no chains . By any chance do you have auto levelling on suburban?might be stuck in inflated position . .? Are the 2bolts that hold the swivel brackets that hold the bars tight? The bars should be kinda hard to move by hand .

1) Yes, I have the 4 point sway control hitch.
2) I do not have auto leveling on the TV, but I do have the air bags in the rear springs. Run at 5 PSI when not towing, and around 27 when towing.
3) At first the bars were very hard to move side to side, but now they move easily by hand

After my initial post I did some checking on-line and dug out my user manual. I am indeed supposed to check that things are tight and torque some of the bolts. I'll do more reading and take it to someone that knows what they are doing and ask them let me watch what they do. Getting a new TV in 4-6 weeks, so I'll have to adjust everything again at that time.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Smile

I also have Equalizer.

Just follow instructions when you get new TV. It was pretty easy to adjust mine for proper setup.
