Install Recurve R6 on Zinger Rezerve 32bh TT

Hey everyone,

Picking up my TT soon and the camping world is insisting I get a sway control hitch installed before departing. I actually want to do that but don't want to pay their quoted prices and they don't have the hitch I prefer in-stock. For those that have done installed a Recurve R6, is that something I could do in the lot of the camping world? They said they won't install one I buy from an outside vendor.

I would not get something you don't want. With that said, the reviews I quickly read sound like it is a pretty good hitch. There is more to properly setting up a hitch than just installing it in the parking lot and MHO is that CW is basically doing the right thing by not letting you do that. Now if you decided the hitch is Ok and just don't like their price, (believe it's about 540.00) you might see if you can order it online and have them install the one you receive (believe I saw the same hitch for about 400.00 online-free ship). Good luck

Stan, the dealer said they won't install hitch from an outside vendor.

Maybe you can call a mobile service to have it installed. On such an important component as a hitch, I'd want it to be installed correctly by a professional.

We did it in about a half hour on the lot. And we did it on the lot because like you, we did not want to spend the ridiculous price of their install.

But you will need a few tools. Socket set, tape measure and a torque wrench. There are a total of 6 bolts so it's pretty easy.

Couple of notes that we learned as we set it up.

1.) Make sure you get the right LENGTH bars! We had to go with the short bars for the R6 because the long bars would place the brackets where the battery box was! So make sure you measure both the distance from the center of the coupler to the battery box, as well as from the center of the coupler to the back of the propane mounts.

2.) Turn off the sway control with the allen wrench provided and backup the truck as straight as possible when first doing the initial setup.

3.) Angle the brackets slightly forward so the bars when engaged, the bars rest parallel to the bracket they sit on. Otherwise, when you slide the tool in to engage the bars, good luck getting the tool out once engaged because it binds.

We are leaving on a trip on Tuesday, I can take a few pictures if that helps to show the setup. Just let me know.

Where did you find the short bars? I'm not sure if I'll need them, but just in case. I haven't seen any mention of them anywhere else.

I had to call Camco directly to find out. They sell two different kits. One with the short bars, or one with the long bars. Or you can call a vendor such as RVupgrades, or Camping world to ship just the bars, as no one lists them on their website.

In my case I was right on the line with either option, and it was actually cheaper for me to buy the long bar standard kit, AND the short bars separately dropped shipped, than just purchasing the short bar kit.

So I have a spare set of the standard long bars in my basement that have not been used.

Part Number for the short bar 1,000 - 1,200 lb bars are 48763

Thank you for the info/advice. We picked up our travel trailer today and installed the hitch in the parking lot. Took about 30 minutes and worked great on the 50 mile drive home. Ended up saving quite a bit by buying the hitch direct from a vendor online and then doing my own install.

Not to rain on your parade, BUT: Every business has its profit areas. Things they "count" on. You chose to save less then $200, and do it right under their nose in their parking lot. Karma's a (moderator edit). Don't complain when you come back with problems in your new camper, and they tell you it's a six month wait! You picked the wrong battle in my estimation!

I appreciate your comment, thank you. The camping world staff was great and the walk-through specialist even came out to give some tips/tricks when hitching up the truck. He was very helpful, and they know they'll have a repeat customer, when I'm in the area.
