Kingpin Tripod

Just started camping in Cruiser 5er and notice trailer movement when occupants are moving about. Do the tripods do much to stop this from happening? A fellow camper told me that they don't and are only used to add support to the front of the unit to prevent cracking of body material where the front overhand meets the main trailer body. Hate to spend monet on strong arms if a tripod will solve the problem.

You would be better off getting JT Strongarms or Winfield stabilizers. Do a better job and you don't have to store them when traveling.

I have used the tripod on two 5'ers and believe they help. Also use the chocks between the wheels and have the electric rear jacks. This combo keeps our trailer very steady. Many of these things are personnal opinions, so you will get a variety of responses. Pick what you think is the best solution for you.

A combination of tripod, wayne's stabilizer under rear bumper and bal chocks between the wheels keeps ours rock steady.

I noticed the same problem with our PP when we first started camping. First I tried the wheel chocks ( home made) at that seemed to work. Then got a good deal on a tripod and thatseemed to help even more. I do admit the tripod is one more thing to store in the back of the truck while traveling but works for me. The other supports I am sure work as well and might get them on my next unit.

I use a tripod on trips that are longer than3 nights, otherwise I don't bother with it. I do find that with the rear jacks tight, wheel chocks tight and some weight on the king pin tripod the unit is pretty solid.

The more weight you can get off the tires and suspension the more steady the unit will be.

As stated, the tri-pod will help. I prefer to not have to crawl around to tighten the JT type arms but that is just me.

we purchased one when we bought our new fifth wheel. had it installed when some other campers stopped to visit and see the camper and he could not believe how rock solid our unit felt. we use a tripod, rear jacks and the wheel chocks that spread between the tires. we are very happy

!

also doubles as a lock on the kingpin for extended stay parking.

if you cant get one bought for $100 you are paying to much.

got one of internet for $79 ,wife thinks it is worth the money,i just lay it in the front storage compartment near the hitch

I just bought ours and have not used it yet, but just in the lot it shook way less then a TT. So for us it will feel soild and we would endure the snickers in the am from

neighbors.

It will help to some degree by not eliminate the problem totally. See the discussion thread until "wobble, wobble, wobble" subject for more info. The strong arm system will work the best but unfortunately my spare tire mount location prevents the use of that system so I have used a "bipod" stabilizer (opened the base as wide as possible) and used 6 X 8 "footings" placed under the rear stablizers for pretty good wobble dampening. These are 3 feet long pieces of softwood lumberwith a handle mounted onto them for carrying. I put one under one rear stabilizer oriented North to South, and the other oriented East to West. That helped a lot.

The last piece of the equation I see being used a lot are the wheel chocks that tighten down against between the two tires, and place between the axels. I have been told these also help.

JT Strongarms are more expensive but work infinitely better than a kingpin tripod.

The problem with the spare tire mount can easily be resolved by moving it back about 3 to 4 inches. Thats what I did when I mounted the JT Strongarms.

We put our spare tire on the back bumper so no issue with the JT's at all. They work great, we love them!

Lower the spare tire & you can see, where the bracket is bolted through the front compartment floor. Remove the (2) 1/4"x 20 bolts & redrill the holes, & remount the bracket.

I installed a set of Eliminator Stabilizer Bars on my 335SS without having to move the spare. There is just enough room for installation of the connecting brackets without having to move anything.

We too felt the Bi/Tri pod didn't remedy our "movement". Aftermarket permanently installed stabilizers are definitely the way to go. We've used ours for over 6 years and just love being stable! Huge, Di
