Raising hitch tongue

I need to raise it since it's very unleveled when the trailer is connected to out truck.

I just need to know how many men I need to help lift it once it's not bolted to the trailer.

Cheers!
Scott

I would go with about 3 guys. They weigh around 130 lbs.

Great thanks!

Does it matter the orientation of the bolts or any of the combination should be fine. I.E. does the pin plate have to be level?

I would just follow the present bolt hole pattern and either raise or lower it to the holes above or below what you have now.

It would be a lot easier to lower truck hitch

Not all hitches can be lowered. I'm not sure if his RV is running nose low or nose high.

What brand of hitch and angle of trailer nose up or down would help to give you input.

Socoguy has a great question as the brand makes a big difference. The stock 1621 hitch on my rig only weighed about 50 lbs or less. I bought a Glide ride and it weighs about 100 -120 lbs. My wife and I took the old one out but it took 3 big guys to put the new one in.

I assume we are talking about a 5th wheel.

I left mine hitched to the truck used the landing gear to take the weight then removed the bolts.

Then used landing gear to raise or lower depending on which way you need to go. Then when holes were lined up reinserted the bolts.

No lifting by me required.

I just bought a 2015 Ford F-250 SD 4X4. My old truck was a 2005 Ford F-250 SD 4X2. I'm using the same Reese 15K hitch in the new truck as I used in the old truck. I measured the height of the bed of the box on the 4X4 and it sits about 5" higher then the bed on my 2005. My new truck has 20" rims, my old truck has 18" rims.

Last weekend I drove over to our RV storage yard and hooked up the trailer to the new truck and measured the height of at the front of the trailer with the height at the rear of the trailer with the landing gear retracted. There is a 4" elevation difference between the front and rear of the trailer, with the front sitting higher than the rear. I then lowered the yolk of the hitch down one bolt hole.

It changed the trailer elevation about 1.5." So now I have a 2.5" difference between the front and rear of the trailer. My question to the group is this close enough, or do I now need to look at adjusting the pin box height?

Don

You can keep adjusting. lowering the hitch, and raising the pin box. As long as you have approximately 6 in. of clearance between the top of the box on the truck and the 5th wheel you will be OK.

Right now the clearance is about 8" from the top of the bed to the bottom of the trailer. So I certainly have room to maneuver.

You might be lucky enough to get that thing leveled out after all.

Be sure to watch for a clearnce problem between the pin box and the bed rails when in a tight turn.
