Is anyone using a Reese or DrawTite sliding hitch with a 5 1/2 ft. box? I have a Nissan Titan crew cab and my dealer is telling me that I need a special automatic slider with a cost of $4500....seems a little steep to me. Scheduled to pick up the 27RL on Sat. and then get this thrown at me....any help would be greatly appreciated

I use a reese slider hitch. I don't see the necessity of an automatic slider? Am I missing something?

I use a Reese 16K slider hitch on my 61/2 foot bed....cost $600.00 -$700.00
Ask the dealer why you NEED an automatic slider hitch.
$4500.00 sure will increase his profit margin.

With a 5 1/2 ft bed he may not be able to make normal turns without the automatic. Will depend on the trailer. With my 6 1/2 foot bed I have had times i parking lots where I was concerned and had to stop and make sure.

We have the Super Glide on our 5-1/2 bed truck. Love it and wouldn't be without it. Cost was $3000. a little steep but worth it.

You don't need it as long as your careful with every turn you make... But the bed is to tight to make tighter turns. I have dinged the back window on my 6ft bed turning around in a large parking lot. _popupControl();

Take a look at the sidewinder pin box. It may work for you and it is much cheaper than a new autoslider. Try the search under sidewinder. It has been discussed on this forum several times.

After running with a reese that I had to get out and release to make a tight corner, and after hitting the back of the cab twice (i'm a hard headed swede) I finally got a super glide. Now I don't have to think about releasing the hitch I just go. No more damage. The cost $2500 installed was well spent.

I guess I'm getting old besides. 5th Airborne makes a kingpin attachment that you can use with any 5th wheel hitch. The pivot is in the kingpin not the hitch. You might want to lood these up.

The installation instructions for a slider hitch states that it is not intended for boxes shorter than 6 1/2 ft. I looks like you'll need an auto slider.

Thanks for everone's info, as it turned out I had to go with the sidwinder. All the hitches we look at were specific about a Titan, it would work as long as the trailer was no more than 90" wide, the Crusier is 96". Well when all the experts finished giving their opinions we decided to go with the Reese slider and the sidewinder. I may not need the slider with the sidewinder but the piece of mind that I have it just in case is worh it. The sidewinder will be in in a week so will let you all know wow it works out. Got a trip planned for March 28th so.........
Thanks again for all the help
Bob
