Tow hitch rating

I have a 2015 Cruiser Air fifth wheel that came with a factory mounted class 3 hitch. Can anyone tell me if I can pull a small trailer with a golf cart on it? I have no idea what the weight limit is. I have contacted the manufacture several times and I haven't received anything back.

If it is mounted to the bumper I would think you would be very limited. ( bike rack) If it is mounted to the frame probably 500 tongue and 5000 trailer. There should be a weight listing on it somewhere I would think.

Yes it is bolted as well as welded.

The factory hitch on our unit says it's only rated for 300lbs tongue weight. I don't remember what the max trailer weight was.

I've towed the canoe with a 2hp Honda on the back and a few misc. items inside. Only issue was not being able to see it back there. Made me nervous.

Have you ever pulled a small trailer with a golf cart secured to it?

Nope sorry. We haven't pulled any trailer behind our 5th wheel as of yet. Depending on the model of golf cart I would think the weight would be some where between 1000 - 1500 lbs. Personally I think you would be fine but you still might want to weight the tongue just to be on the safe side. With a 300 lbs tongue weight you are looking at a 3000 lbs payload at 10% or 2000 lbs at 15%. Most tongue weights for a trailer should be between that 10% - 15%. Say for example your cart was to weight 1500 lbs at 15% your tongue weight would only be 225 lbs and within the limits of the hitch.

I have towed a golf cart on a 6x10 utility trailer on a different coach that I mounted my own hitch on. I never had an issue, however I am a welder and maintenance engineer. It was properly done.
I talked with salesman for Cruiser Aire and he told me that the factory frame mounted hitch is rated for 3,500lbs. Gross Weight and 350 lbs. Tongue Weight.
I can only assume he knew what he was talking about.
I will say that the mounting of their factory hitch and my own engineered design are nearly identical.

Thanks. I have finally herd back from the manufacture and it has 350# tong weight and #3500 trailer weight to be safe.

The "triple tow law" is called a Recreational Double here in Michigan. We are one of the states that allow it. The operator is required to possess a Class A CDL license with Doubles/Triples endorsement, or they can take a test and add a "R" endorsement to a normal passenger vehicle license.
There are states that don't allow this type of towing situation, however, I believe most of them will let you go if you are properly licensed and plated from a state that does allow it. They may ,of course, stop you to check all that legalization. So just make sure Momma puts her margarita down between the seats in those states.....

If it's truly a class 3 hitch, it has to be frame mounted. It will also have a 2" receiver. If so, it's rated for 6,000 lbs gvw and 600 lbs tongue weight.
The real question is how it's attached?
If yes to the above, you'll be fine.

Yes it is bolted and welded to the frame of the unit.
