You should be fine with the combo, but get a good brake controller, nothing less than a Prodigy P2 or P3.

The GM integrated brake controller works along with the truck's computer to counteract any sway as it begins and will apply the trailer's brakes if needed.

Funtime you will probably hear from others as well but you need to know the actual weight of your truck with you and all passengers and gear in it for camping. This will quickly drop the available payload and that is where the tongue weight of the trailer comes in. I know that Chev will list the curb weight of your truck but again you need to get all the gear and people in your truck and weigh it. Then you need to find out the actual weight of the trailer as the dry weight listed is with no add on such as batteries and propane. Then you will want at the very least 10% of your trailer weight on the tongue (I hear about 13% is better).
Add the tongue weight to the actual weight of your rig with gear and passengers and see where you are at related to the GVRW of your rig.

I'm not trying to freak you out and by no means am I a member of the weight police but I made the mistake of listening to the salesman when I bought my ST25RB reserve and ended up trading my 2009 Silverado with the same options as you for the 2500 in my sig. I do carry a pile of tools and have a cap as well so that also made a difference but I am much more comfortable now

Just a few things I have learned......

I'm towing the same trailer with my 07 Avalanche which is by the spec sheet less capable than your truck. I test towed the trailer and with the equalizer I had no issues. Was it perfect, a dream that I didn't even know was back there, no but was it capable with a margin of safety? In my opinion yes.

The weight police have been all over me on another RV forum but I've pulled my dump trailer which was nearly 9500lbs on the scales without much trouble so I feel fine.

Only you will know if your comfortable with the way it tows. Take the time to get your weight distribution and brake controller setup correctly. I think you will be fine.

I towed a Flagstaff 831RLSS with a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 Z-71 with the 5.3 V8, towing package, trans cooler, etc. The trailer was around 7k dry. That truck was in a grunt all the time. It was a mental workout every time I went more than 50 miles from home. I traded it for an 08 F250, and I've never regretted it. It's just more stable and feels safer, to me anyway.

Sorry, I misread your post so no need for an aftermarket controller. Guess I should have finished my coffee before posting.

Everyone has a different comfort level when towing. We pulled a st29qb reserve (not our first TT)with an 08 f150 with tow pkg for one summer. With a family of 4 and all the stuff that goes with kids I knew I was just over my max payload/GVWR. It was not a comfortable tow through the Cdn Rockies and I dreaded towing through the windy prairies. We started to leave earlier and earlier in the morning to avoid the wind and nagging in the back of my mind was what if something broke and we caused an accident? Could I live with myself if something happened to the 2 little darlings in the back seat because I ignored towing specs. We now tow with an F250 and I couldn't be happier or more relaxed while travelling. No worries about tail wagging the dog, no white knuckles and tense shoulders, no trying to load light. This is just my story, others have a higher risk threshold and do just fine every day.
