weight distribution hitch

Our '06 Explorer just died. We now have a '14 Expedition XLT EL with a 5.4L engine. Do I need a weight distribution hitch to tow our new Crossroads Z-1 Model TT211RD at 4,100 lbs? Thank you.

I would not be without one, and I'm sure you will be more than happy that you have WDH. The ride and handling will be so much better... and don't forget sway control. Just my .02

We have the exact same 211RD, and tow it with a Nissan Titan truck. I figure we are about 5800 lbs loaded, and about 760 tongue wt. The Titan doesn't even stoop much when we put the weight on. But we were sold a WD hitch, with sway control, and am glad we have it. It pulls more easily than our 14ft trailer did, and doesn't sway. A WD hitch adds a little to the complexity, but a lot to the safety and comfort. JMHO!

You'd have to check what is exactly stamped on your Expy's hitch but I'm pretty sure it will say that max hitch weight without WD bars is 500# and you would easily exceed that. The max weight goes up considerably when using WD bars.

Even if you don't NEED it, the WD hitch with sway control will make towing a much more pleasant experience. The minimal cost for a basic WDH and sway bar far out-weigh the instability of not having one.

You need a WDH. No benefit to not having one. Many benefits to having one.
