Not sure now?

So my placard sticker on the side of my 5er says 65psi but that was on 225/75R15 D which were the China bombs. My max cold psi on my new Endurance tires 225/75R15 E says 80 max psi. Still have the factory rims and haven’t taken one off to see what is stamped on the back of the rim. Am I over thinking this. I had planned to run 80 cold but now thinking about dropping back to 75. I know everyone has opinions but now I’m just not sure. Never ran Endurance before and this will be my first trip in them. A 8 hour drive. Is the sticker recommended for the tire only or does it take in recommendation of the rim. Ok let me have it; opinions!

I pull a 2012 RW 36RL it came with Goodyear Marathon E rated tires with a cold psi of 80 psi. I changed to Goodyear G614 in Jan. of 2014 on stock wheels. The G's call for 110 psi cold, ran them at 95 psi. In June of 2017 found two wheels with cracked spokes, tire dealer said to much psi and to stiff a tire for the stock wheel. I would definitely check with the wheel mfg for specs on your wheels

Crossroads nor china pop's will stand by your tire failure, and pay for the repairs you get. I would think following the Tire mfg. recommended tire inflation pressure would be best. If the tire mfg inflation chart say's "X" then I would follow that. Besides, your sitcker is for " D" load range tires,.You appear to upgrade load ranges. I agree with you inspecting the rim for the stamped max pressure rating.

Just my opinion.

Yea I won’t feel comfortable until I pull a wheel and check the stamp on the back. Plan to do that tomorrow and will post what I find.

Good idea, my big ol'e gut says you should be good to 80psi. The ones on my rv were. But, please take the 10 min and look, so you know, instead of using the internet.

Bonjour! LOL

So I pulled one of the wheels this morning and it’s stamped Max 2830 Lbs. So, what does that mean. According to Goodyear Endurance site the recommended Lbs for 2830 for 225/75R15 at 87 MPI is 80PSI; and if it heats up over 80 what’s the limit on the wheels; if I’m even reading it right. So, I know if you ask 10 people you will get usually 10 answers. Will it make my 5er bounce around at 80PSI since it only weighs 7,804 Dry and probably around 8,800-9,000 loaded(just guessing)? Would running 75PSI be a better pressure? Trying to decide now. Don’t want to run to low or to high. So, maybe I’m still over thinking it or maybe not.

Get your RV weighed and set the pressure based on the weight on the tires per the load chart.
My wheel was stamped that way and the tire dealer said it was okay to run the Endurance at 80psi.

Well after checking and some serious thought I plan to run 80PSI as I had first decided to. See how she pulls and keep a check on the pressure. A man and his decisions is brutal! LOL

Do not think your over thinking, just wanting to be educated, and understand, before it gets expensive. Did you notice your sticker on the trailer said not to exceed 3980#, and your rim shows max 2830? I doubt the dealer can explain this disconnect, maybe the trailer mfg could, or its a waste of time.asking questions that you still have to pay to fix. I would bet your original load range "D" tires never met that load range. Seems like those I have seen are ~ 2540 @65mph. After several tire issues, I went and weighed my rv hooked up and hooked while going camping, I checked my rims, and the tire mfg. recommended pressure. I felt better after seeing the math if the tire vs rim vs highest total weight the tires would see. I was way under the lowest max number. It was still a bit confusing, but I felt safe about pulling. I will also check my sitcker, and see.what it says.

I feel your pain. No clear answer.

That 3980lbs is just the max payload number and the 2830lbs is max weight on each wheel. 4 wheels means they are good up to 11,320lbs of trailer weight. Add the max payload to the dry weight and you will get your GVWR for the camper which I’m sure is well under the 11,320lbs. Plus you also have to take into account that a portion of that gross trailer weight will be on the tow vehicle so even less weight is technically on the trailer axles/tires going down the road.

Thought I would share this information. Decided to call Goodyear today and speak with “EXPERT TECHNICIANS”. Called them three times and spoke with three different so called experts with Goodyear. I gave all three my Goodyear Endurance tire size of 225/75R15 and the same weight of 8,300Lbs and by no surprise I received three different answers. 55,75, and 80. Thought that was funny.

So headed to OBX last Tuesday. Endurance tires set at 80 PSI. About two hours into the drive I stopped for gas and to check the tires. PSI was 87. Dropped back to 80. The next day after arriving I rechecked the tires cold. They were at 69.

Seriously Papa-T, this stuff will mess with your head.........

Did you factor in the accuracy of your thermometer and pressure gauge and the ambient temperature of your departure vs arrival point?

ROFL.

I going to make some popcorn this is fun....

Ted, if your tires are supposed to have 80 psi, that is set when the tires are cold. They factor in the rise in psi for when you are running. Temps and psi always go up when they are turning on the road.
Set them when they're cold, and forget it if they look ok while you are on the road. If you want to check them again, do it the next morning.

I set mine at 10% less than max on the tire to allow for heat build. So if the max Is 80 I would set them @ 72 to 75 psi to allow for the heat build.

Read the label on the trailer. This will allow for the proper sidewall flex, which is important to keep the maximum tread patch on the road. Too much pressure and no flex and the trailer will bounce over irregularities, putting stress on everything those wheels are connected to. The max on the tires is just that - a max. It doesn't take into account the actual application for that tire. That's the job of those who engineered the trailer/vehicle in the first place.
